Sterling wrapped bandages around his newly acquired wound, his 17th birthday present from his father, Duke Elias Fermion.

"What a sick bastard," Sterling muttered to himself.

Sterling was selectively mute ever since he was a child. He could speak but he only does it when he is either by himself or with those he trusts.

"I agree, Young Master."

Sterling spun around to face his butler, Jax. Jax was a little bit taller than himself and he had a pair of attractive purple eyes. Jax is one of the few he trusts because he practically raised him after he was sent to a different estate to live in by his father when he was 5 years old. Jax was only 11 years older than him.

Every two weeks, Sterling must travel to the main estate to have dinner with his family which consists of his father, stepmother, older brother, and older sister. His older brother and older sister were twins and they are only one month older than him.

Since he was born to a commoner maid, he was treated differently by his father. Furthermore, he did not inherited the Duke's dark blue hair and light blue eyes. Sterling has pink eyes and pink hair. Because of his eye color, he was not accepted as part of the family. His eyes being pink meant that he did not inherit the power of frost (ice), the Fermion Dukedom's specialty and requirement to become the heir.

He did, however inherit fire magic from his commoner mother which is considered to be on par with frost magic. He suspects that his commoner mother who died during childbirth was of noble descent but he never investigated as he saw that there was no point in doing so.

If his mother was truly of noble descent, then there must have been a reason why she ended up as a maid for the Duke. Maybe she was a spy? Who knows.

After the diner, the Duke would always call him to his office to torture and abuse him. Then, Jax would be called to retrieve his bloody and bruised body. There was nothing they could do as he was still a child and can only move out when he turned 18, which he planned to do.

Anyways, Sterling was brought out of his thoughts when Jax started to do his tie for him. Sterling smiled slightly at his actions. When Jax was done, he gave Sterling a quick hug.

"Have a great day at the Academy Young Master," Jax said.

Sterling rolled his eyes and sarcastically said, "Of course."

Jax frowned and asked, "Are those noble children still bullying you?"

"Yes."

"But, you have a higher status than them, being the second son of a Duke."

"Do you think they don't know that? They know the Duke does not favor me which causes them to have a boost of confidence to bully me. I don't care either way though because I see them as entertainment. Plus, even if they physically hurt me, I can't feel pain since I am used to my father's abuse," Sterling said with a slight sneer.

"If you say so," Jax said with a hint of worry in his voice.

Arriving at the Academy, Sterling was immediately ambushed by a group of students.

"I know what you did last weekend freak." A voice stated with venom.

Sterling looked for the origin of the voice and he found out that it was Timothy, a nerd in his classroom.

'Last weekend?' Sterling wondered, confused.

Seeing his confused face, Timothy scoffed.

"Tell him, Bob," Timothy ordered.

"You humiliated Lady Penelope by not accepting her homemade strawberry shortcake," Bob said.

"What a jerk." Another person in the crowd muttered.

'Oh. The cake. I'm allergic to strawberries that's why I rejected her offer.' Sterling thought as he rolled his eyes.

"You are nothing but trash! Stay away from Lady Penelope! Her innocence might be tainted from a devil like you!" Timothy shouted.

Sterling bowed his head. No one could make out his facial expressions but they noticed his shoulders shaking as if he was crying. Seeing Sterling cry, the group of people looked at each other and smiled.

'Serves him right,' they all thought.

One boy, in particular, looked at Sterling in disgust.

'How dare that piece of trash bully my sweet darling Penelope!" The boy in question, Bernard thought.

With the group of people around him, Bernard gained some confidence and spat out, "You are nothing but a freak. Stay away from Lady Penelope!"

"Yeah!" Timothy added.

"A freak who can't speak!" Bob chimed in.

"Ahahaha." The crowd laughed.

"Hey, answer me trash! Oh wait...you can't." Bernard laughed.

He then proceeded to push Sterling on his shoulder, causing Sterling to fall right on his ass. Sterling finally looked up and what the students saw stunned them. Contrary to their previous belief, Sterling was not crying but laughing!

"Pathetic." Sterling mouthed out, pronouncing the word slowly so they can understand.

This caused all of them to be stunned into complete silence.

The silence was broken when Bernard suddenly roared out with a furious voice, "Get him!!!"

The other students complied and grabbed him by the shoulders to hold him in place. Bernard walked over to Sterling and he was about to punch him in the face before a loud feminine voice suddenly shouted, "What are you doing to Sterling!?" 

"Lady Penelope! It's not what it looks like!" Bernard exclaimed in fright.

"Hmph! Leave him alone! He is my friend!" Penelope exclaimed.

Bernard made his way to the fuming Penelope and grabbed her hands.

"You are too nice for your own good, Lady Penelope. Can't you see he is bullying you?" 

"Bitch shut up!!! You don't know him!" Penelope coldly retorted as she rolled her eyes.

Bernard and the rest were shocked at Penelope's sudden aggressiveness but their eyes suddenly glazed over and they continued to look at her in awe as if nothing ever happened.

Sterling noticed this and took note to ask Penelope what happened. Suddenly, Penelope grabbed his hand and dragged him out of the room. The nobles started to gossip when they saw the two but they did not stop them. They finally reached an empty room and Penelope spun around to face Sterling.

"Can you talk now?"

"Of course Lady Penelope or should I say brother," Sterling smirked.
