"...Moon? Moon, I'm faculty!" I take a few steps back, closer to Gregory, but try to see where I stand with the other half of Sun. Turning off the lights was a warning that would stay in my head, that's for sure.
"I know you are. But him.." A long, spindly finger points slowly at Gregory, "...He is up past his bedtime."
"I know! I know, and... uuh, I am simply going to take him to the main office! To, y'know. Sleep."
"...Are you helping this troublemaker, Miss Grace?"
"Well—"
"Are you?" For a scrawny build of a robot, he's.. pretty threatening at the moment, because even if he was lanky and brittle, he's still metal. A kid like Gregory and me, who has no upper body strength, stood no chance probably, "If you're helping him... You must be punished too."
That was my cue. Moon leaped towards me in an elegant swan dive formation, but I quickly shifted away and bolted for Gregory. I grab his hand and run swiftly to the nearest play structure. I heard the light metal clanks of Moon's fast paced steps behind me, but after using a second to knock over toy cylinders, he grumbled about cleaning up and gave us time to crawl into the tight, plastic tubes.
The first thing I did, when Gregory and I were safely tucked away in a square attachment to the structure, was frantically swat at my watch.
"Michael? Mike!!"
"Grace! Look, I dunno what you did, but Phone Guy just called me about the lights in the daycare being off?"
"Yeah! G—" I pause, making eye contact with a worried Gregory. He was listening with wide eyes, and I could tell that he was terrified. I scooted closer to him and held the watch up for both of us, motioning him to be quiet just a little longer, "I.. went behind the security desk and grabbed one of those passes, but it was rigged to the lights. Now Moon's going on about how I'm a rule breaker right when I was gonna start some arts and crafts with Sun."
"Oh, har har. Well, there's bigger things to worry about for you right now.." I hear him sigh on his end, cursing briefly before speaking again, "Listen, there should be five generators that'll power up the lights again. The doors lock when the lights go out, so.. so when you get them on, I'll try to meet you outside. That, or if I can make it over in time and break in, I'll tell Moon to lay off you, newbie."
I glance at Gregory, who just shrugs unsurely. I give him a look, but respond quickly, "Well.. I think I can handle some generators on my own. I'll keep you posted, focus on our first priority. How's everyone else doing?"
"Oh, well.. Vanessa went quiet, but she's kinda been a lone wolf lately anyways. Jeremy's fine too, and I, on the other hand, was rockin' with the Gator Golf."
"Nice."
"Yeah. Had to tell Monty to cool it, since earlier he was thrashing shit." I hear him pause, and I also take a minute to really reflect on our normal conversation while I'm in imminent danger and helping the kid stowaway, "...Welp! I should let you go. I'll make Phone Guy try to help you on the other side, maybe he can turn the power on remotely.."
"Mike, thanks. I'll keep you posted, bye bye."
"See you soon." I tapped the watch to end the call, focusing my attention in its entirety on Gregory. He seemed pale and quiet for someone who was described as a goblin, but the only indication that he was possibly scared (hey, I know I would be) was his silence, "Gregory," I began, smiling as confidently as I could muster, "I know.. you don't trust me, and that's okay, but would it be okay if you could collaborate with me on fixing these generators?"
