Match made in... hell

Chapter 1: James Buchanan Barnes

Sunday was movie night, so Nat, Wanda, Tony, Peter, Scott, Bruce, Vision, Thor and I said in the living room watching a movie. After a long argument on what to watch, Wanda convinced us all to watch Frozen. The guys were complaining, but when we started the movie they were hooked immediately. Scott even started crying when Anna's and Elsa's parents died, but he's a softie anyway.

Just when Elsa started singing „Let it go", Steve and Sam entered the room. Between them a man I hadn't seen before. I quickly grabbed the remote to press pause and then turned back towards the man standing between Sam and Steve. He was tall and muscular like Steve, but his hair was dark brown and fell softly onto his shoulder. Also I noticed he was wearing gloves. Weird.

„He is just like Elsa!" Thor exclaimed excitedly and pointed towards the stranger's gloved hands. He quickly pulled his hands behind his back and looked at us awkwardly.

„Guys: This is James Barnes, also known as Bucky, my best friend" Steve announced.

„Hold up, Cap! I thought I am your best friend??" Sam said pouting playfully. James looked to the ground and awkwardly shuffled with his feet, but apart from me nobody seemed to have noticed how uncomfortable the discussion that arose between Steve and Sam made him.

„Guys shut up." I shouted. James looked up at me and I tried giving him a reassuring smile, but he just looked at me with an unreadable expression in his face. God, I just noticed how blue his eyes were.

„Sorry..." Sam and Steve both said. Then Steve continued „You might know him as the Winter Soldier. He was captured by Hydra and manipulated into... well, he had no control over his actions for quite a while. After finding him, I brought him to Wakanda where Shuri helped him decode the manipulation so he could join our team. So, here we are."

Nobody seemed to move. I looked around and saw a few shocked expressions and I assumed it was because of who Bucky was. Who he had been in the past. But I believed Steve when he said that Shuri helped him. And I also noticed how uncomfortable Bucky was getting.

„I should go... Steve, do I have a room here or something?" he mumbled, turning to Steve.

I decided to get up and greet him properly, since nobody else seemed to want to do that.

„Hey James" I started and held my hand out towards him. He looked at it confused first, but then he took it and shook it loosly. „I'm Y/n Y/l/n. Since the rest of the team seems to be a bit starstruck... Welcome to the team! We're glad to have you." I said and looked at him. I saw the corners of his mouth twitch at my words and his eyes looked a little less sad.

„You know what? Y/n, would you mind showing him around? I have a few bones to pick around here." Steve says looking at the avengers who had still not gotten up to great James. Upon Steve's words Thor got up and exuberantly flung his arms around James and patted him on his back. „Welcome to the team, earthling!" he said and then sat back down on the couch. James seemed a bit overwhelmed.

„Sure, I would love to. Which room is his?" I asked, looking at Tony who had is fists clenched.

„Tony??" I asked, waking him from some sort of trance or whatever. He looked a bit angry, but replied „90-D"

„Ok, thank you!" I said. Then I waved at the others and said „Let's go James." and we left the living room.

„Sorry about them, James. They can be a bit... judgy. But they'll warm up eventually." I reassured him, but he didn't reply. He just nodded slightly.

„Since it's already pretty late and I'm sure it would be too overwhelming, I'm not going to show you everything today. I'll show you the essential things today and the rest tomorrow. Does that sound good?" I asked and looked at him, waiting for him to reply, but yet again, he just nodded.
