The following day after class Blake heads to the cafeteria to meet up with Yang. She sits at a table and starts to wait patiently for Yang. She pulls out her phone and starts looking through it. Suddenly a loud clap of thunder can be heard and a bright light flashes outside."Attention students and staff. A very dangerous lightning storm has broken out very close by and will most likely not pass us by for a while. We advise that everyone should stay inside while this storm is occurring. Again everyone. should. stay inside and stay where they are. Please have a fun and safe afternoon," an announcer announces over the loudspeakers. Blake sighs, she opens her messaging app and clicks on the conversation with Yang.
"Hey so I know that a lightning storm just started and all, but we were supposed to meet in the cafeteria about ten minutes ago. Where are you?" Blake asks in a text sent to Yang. About thirty seconds later Yang responds.
"Sorry, I was talking to my sister and lost track of time. Hopefully this lightning storm won't be to long and we can still meet. I was looking forward to talking."
"I was looking forward to talking to you too. Your sister? Oh yeah how is she?" Blake texts.
"Yeah. Well step sister actually. She's about two years younger than me, we look almost nothing alike. My mom doesn't care to much for her. She's also super smart, and even managed to get herself into a couple classes here. Her name is Ruby Rose. She kept her mom's last name. Which is the woman who my dad dated when my mom and him were divorced for a few years. So it's really awkward for Ruby, all most all of the time. But at least my parents are back together,"
"Sorry that your parents split for awhile that must have been a difficult time."
"It wasn't really for me, I was like two or three when it happened. Then Ruby's mom passed away and sent Ruby to live her biological dad. My mom was real pleased with that. But she allowed Ruby to live with us just because it made me happy to be an old sister."
"Your mom sounds like quite the character."
"God you have no idea. She loves me and hates Ruby. But what about your parents? What are they like?"
"Well my dad is the mayor of a town, miles north of here and my mom is his campaign manager when ever he is in an election. They wanted me to go to a more local school and take up politics like they had. But I didn't really want any part in politics. I wanted to be therapist. I felt that they disapproved and I decided to come to this school which is in the middle of nowhere and has a great psychology program."
"Why did you feel like your parents disapproved of what you wanted to do?"
"Well when I told them they were slightly frustrated and I ended up getting mad and yelling at them and then I left."
"I'm sorry to hear that. It must've been hard."
"It was but I feel like I'm getting better. But with how I am, I probably just ended up blowing it out of proportion. I tend to do that quite a bit,"
"Really? How so?"
"I just have a knack for overthinking. But normally give me a day or two and it'll work itself out. Kind of,"
"Interesting,"
"Yep. So do you have any more siblings or is Ruby it?"
"Yeah Ruby is it. What about you?"
"Nope, I've got none. Closest I have to a sister is Ilia,"
"Oh nice! She seems pretty cool,"
"Oh the coolest," Blake sends as the announcement speakers go off.
"Attention all students the lightning storm has passed it is now safe to move from building to building again. Have a nice day," The announcer announces.
"Hey I'm still at the cafeteria if you still want to meet up. Let me know if you want to," Blake texts.
"Sounds great! Would absolutely love to! See you in a minute," Yang responds quickly. Blake smiles and puts her phone down and waits for just a little while longer.
