Poem #6

The weight of everything crashing down on me like a wave,
pushing me down under
pushing and pushing up and just when I think I can breathe again
everything comes crashing back down
like thunder in my ears
black paint in my eyes
the weight of an elephant on my chest
lungs straining and burning for air
wave after wave pushes me down.

Deeper and deeper.

When all hope was lost
there you stand taking blow after blow for me
holding your hand out and pulling me up out of the water
into your arms
just like that everything went away
for the short amount of time wrapped in your warm embrace
just for a little while
just for right now

The water is calm.
