"Okay well maybe we should take a break! I don't see me slowing down anytime soon." As soon as she said that you knew she regretted it.

But she said it, and it stung. You had missed Kate. A lot. Especially over the past two months. Constant flights to LA and back to NYC to film, SNL, meetings, it seemed never ending. You knew you were being selfish, but you couldn't stand not seeing her. Constantly living at her apartment, cleaning up for her, taking care of the cat, you felt like a maid.

"Fine." You said grimly. Clenching your jaw, you swiftly grabbed your bag and coat from the counter and walked out of the door.

You could see her out of the corner of your eye, eyes wide and lips quivering as she watched your every move, the gears in her brain turning as she tried to think of something to cover up what she just said.

Before closing the door behind you, you waited for her to say something, but she just stared at you, her big blue eyes displaying a look that made you want to scoop her up into your arms and never let her go. You waited for a response, but to no avail Kate couldn't give one so you left.

Obviously you regretted the whole fight the instant you stepped foot on the street, but after weeks of being alone it was you that needed some reassurance that you were wanted by Kate.

You had no idea where you would go for the rest of the day, and you didn't really want to spend it alone so you called up one of your friends.

Cam had always been one of your best friends, since your first semester in university really. They had their own place not too far, and you were sure they would let you crash there.

You pulled your phone out of your pocket as you walked to the nearest subway station and sent a quick text to your friend and sooner or later you arrived at their apartment.

Cam opened the door and quickly pulled you into a tight hug.

"You okay?" They asked ushering you inside. You tumbled onto the couch and dropped your bag somewhere.

Letting out a long sigh, you recounted the weeks leading up to the fight, and today. You didn't specifically want to call it a fight, but it was one. Kate had never raised her voice at you ever, and was always kind and tender, which made you feel like a bigger asshole. Sooner or later through your storytelling the tears came. Cam rushed to your side, ready to hug you while a comforting cup of tea was placed on the table beside you.
"Hey it's okay," Cam moved to sit next to you and you placed your head in their lap. "You can't expect yourself to be even tempered 24/7. Besides, you wanted to see Kate after, what? Like 4 weeks of a movie shoot?"

You sniffled in response. "I know you regret what you said, but you can't regret how you feel, and suppress your wants."

And when Cam said that it hit you like a truck.

You wanted Kate. Plain and simple. Blonde and blue eyed Kate. Kate that would wake up early and make you breakfast. Your favourite breakfast, blueberry pancakes. Kate that would stay up late on the couch and pour her heart out to you. Kate that would reluctantly fall asleep in your arms. Kate that had to touch a part of you when she was sleeping to reassure herself.

But that Kate would also come with a Kate that worked. So if you wanted the Kate that made you feel loved, valued, and content, then maybe you'd have to settle for a few weeks apart one in awhile.

After mulling it over in your brain while Cam sat close by, you knew what you needed. Already missing Kate, you hugged Cam goodbye and went to the nearest bodega to purchase some flowers and grab some pizza from her favourite hole-in-the-wall restaurant. You were ready to go back to the apartment and apologize.

However when you finally standing there, hand centimetres away from knocking on the door, your heartbeat was not as calm as it was before.

Fuck it.

You knocked on the door and fixed your hair. The footsteps approached and the door opened soon after.

Your heart stopped.

There Kate was, her curly hair sitting lightly on her shoulders, wearing a blue blouse with the top buttons undone and a bottle of wine in her hand. She looked up at you her lips slightly parted and her eyes a little puffy.

There was no way that Kate was getting ready for a date with someone else, so you anxiously pushed those thoughts away and began saying what you hadn't rehearsed. Just straight from the heart.

"You don't need to let me in, Ill leave if you're still upset, I just want to apologize."

Taking a deep breath you continued. "I acted like a piece of shit. Stupidly selfish. And I've realized that if I want to be with you; that if I want to spend the rest of my life with you I can't be with you all the time. As much as that hurts, I want you to succeed and do what you love. And if that means more time in L.A., or Europe, or even at 30 Rock, so be it. I want you to be happy and if that also means without me, that's cool too. I love you and I'm sorry."

When you looked up, you saw Kate's eyes welled up with tears, and she took a deep breath before speaking, "I'm sorry. Its okay. Just come inside please."

She opened the door up to reveal a table set with candles, wine glasses, flowers, and the apartment smelled like her famous homemade pasta.

"I know that I haven't been exactly fair to you either, and me not realizing that you were upset was just so absolutely shitty of me. So I wanted to do something to make it up to you. I promise I'll make time for you. Hire a house sitter or whatever, I just never want to fight ever again like this, okay?"

You turned to face her, tears in your own eyes as well. You set the pizza and flowers down, and embraced her tightly. Pressing a kiss to whatever part of Kate that you could find. Tears managed to slip, and when you pulled apart her face was wet as well.

"To no more fighting?" You asked.

"To no more fighting."

You kissed her softly, and she kissed you back sweetly with forgiveness on her lips.

"These are yours," You said handing her the bouquet of flowers, "and I, uh, I got us some pizza, but your pasta and wine seems like the better option for dinner tonight."

Kate nodded, a grin grew on her lips as she kissed your cheek in response. "Of course, my love. Take a seat, have some wine."

You cracked a smile and held your hands up in defeat as you walked over to the dinner table.

The rest of the night Kate pretended to be a chef, waiter, and was your girlfriend, stealing kisses while she cleared dishes and brought out new food that she had magically made.

After dinner and a few shared glasses of wine, the two of you were on the couch while aimless TV played in the background, both of you too obsessed with each other to pay attention to what was on the screen. Kate's hands on your body stunned you too much to think of anything but her, and while her hands drifted under your shirt, both of your bodies moved closer, melting into each other, not wanting to be apart ever again.
