A.N. Okay, so this is my first story like this, and I'm fairly new to this community, so no hate, please. Also, I will try and update every week, but I am in school, so I may be inconsistent.

Enjoy!

James POV

James woke with a start.

He looked out the window and saw the sun starting to rise.

Too early to be awake.

Sighing, he pulled the covers over his head in an attempt to go back to sleep. Instead of nodding off like he thought he would, he found himself thinking about what the day would bring, Today was James' eleventh birthday, and he hoped to receive his Hogwarts letter.

Hogwarts was the school for wizards his family had been attending for generations.

At last, warm orange light poured in through the windows. He leaped out of bed and ran to the kitchen. As expected, the table was piled high with delicious foods. His parents, Fleamont and Euphemia Potter walked out of their bedroom sleepily. "Happy birthday kiddo." his father said with a warm smile. "Happy birthday Jamie." his mother said, coming over to embrace James. James smiled broadly, hugged his parents, and ran to the table. "Looks like someone's hungry." his father said with a chuckle.

"Starving!"

After a wonderful breakfast of pancakes and muffins, a loud clang sounded through the house. The Potter family rushed to the window to find an owl plastered across the glass. James flicked his messy black hair out of his face, and his eyes sparkled, for in the owl's grasp was a white envelope with a bright red seal.

"It's here!" James cried. "Now James," his mother started. "Come on Mum, how many places do you know that send an owl  to deliver its letters?" "You have a point," Euphemia said. The Potters opened the window to let the weary bird in. Instead of flying into the house, the large grey owl dropped the letter and opened its claw. Shaking his head, Fleamont placed a silver sickle in the outstretched claw. With a final hoot, the bird flew away. James grabbed the letter from the floor and tore it open.

"It is my Hogwarts letter! When can we go to Diagon Alley?" James' parents laughed. "Slow down there son." his father said. "But Dad," James started, raking his fingers through his hair. "Weren't you excited when you got your letter?" Fleamont nodded to his wife. "The kid's got a point." Euphemia smiled warmly. "Yes, he does."  James had never been more excited.

"We should wait until closer to the start of the school year to go to Diagon Alley."

"But Mum, I want to go now!"

"Listen to your mother."

"Not you too, Dad!"

"James."

"Sorry, sorry."

James walked to his room and sat on the bed. He admired the brightly colored Quidditch posters sloppily plastered on the walls. He wondered what kind of people he would meet at Hogwarts. He hoped there would be other pranksters. James had a bad habit of pulling pranks on unsuspecting people. Sometimes he almost felt bad for his neighbors, friends, cousins, and parents.
