Too many tears had fallen that day. Wendy wouldn't take it anymore.
"Darling, you JUST need to relax..."
"I can't Richard!! I just can't!! Literally every person in this world is able to have a child normally, not just wish one up!" Richard knelt down by his wife's side, his arms caressing her into a tight embrace. "Please... You know how long we've wanted a child..." She ran her gentle fingertips over the tiger-like-stripes of his markings on his biceps.
"And us creating one wouldn't be so bad would it?"
She flinched, pushing him away. "Yes!! I just want to have a normal child! Just a human child without these powers!" Her body trembled as if her heart dangled on a string over a fire and he held the scissors.
The frustration grew on his face. "And what would we do then? Hmm? Dear, we use our powers too much as it is, and if any humans find us out, where would that leave them?" Standing, he turned away from her. "Wendy, we just have to face the facts."
"Don't say it!!" She begged and pleaded for him.
"You can't bear a child."
Wendy burst into tears, his words ripped into her like an arctic Ice Wrath's claws. She collapsed to the floor sobbing harder than she had ever known in her life.
Richard began to walk back upstairs to his study. "Wendy... You need to understand that we just aren't ready for a child... I don't even want one right now but if it would make you happy I would have done it. Having a child normally just isn't possible right now and the sooner you accept that, the better. I'm heading upstairs. When you feel like opening up and dealing with reality, come and get me."
He looked down at her from the staircase, the torn woman slowly stumbling to her feet. She shuffled to the door, shutting it behind herself.
"I will have my child..."
Leaving her home in the suburbs and wandering through the night, Wendy's mind slowly began to slip. I will have my child... She will be beautiful... with long brown hair... and bright blue eyes... The broken wife's feet had brought her to the center of town in a small park, where she fell once again into the grass, gazing up at the stars through tear soaked eyes. She will be creative, and brilliant, and accepting of whoever comes her way... The grass comforted her, it cooled down her skin, making her able to breath a bit easier. She will be strong willed, protective of those who are close to her, and-
Wiping her face on her blouse, she heard the voices of a couple walking down the road. The woman, a chubby brunette with a big smile plastered on her round face, and the man, a tall war-torn hero with broad shoulders and the most content look of any human Wendy had run across. They were walking to a nearby cafe as the man suddenly got down on one knee.
"Elizabeth Behn, for the longest time, I've wanted to show you how I've felt for a really long time. You've stood by me when I've needed you most, and loved me when I thought no one else could... I know I'm not a rich man, and we wouldn't have much, but-"
"My girl will be strong... she will be fast like the wind, quick witted and have a tongue that could slay any argument... My perfect child... Gale Eden... will be." She focused her hands, giving the woman a crushing headache to prevent her feeling anything else happening to her.
"Elizabeth-!! What's wrong??" The man fell to his knees by her side as she clutched her head screaming.
"M-My head... I..." Tears poured down her cheeks as her face almost cracked from the pain. "It hurts...! Oh my god it hurts..!!"
Wendy cringed and looked away. "I'm so sorry..." She looked back focusing as she implanted, materialized, her own and Richards DNA into the woman. "You won't ever know, but I will have my child... I will have her... And she will be normal..." Releasing Elizabeth from her grip and slinking away into the dark, she held her clothes tight to her body and walked home in the warm windy summer night.
The couple stood, calling a taxi as Elizabeth was quickly rushed to the hospital.
Marcus stood outside her room as a short stubby nurse walked up to him.
"Is she going to be okay..? What was it?" His normal strong face was pale as a white sheet, his hands shaking as if any bad news would shatter his very being.
She fiddled with her blonde curly hair and looked at her chart while smacking on a piece of gum. "Well, from the sudden onset of the headache, her collapsing, and her daily stress levels, we think it was just a thunderclap headache. She's not hurt bad, the headache is gone now and there's no real damage to her brain, so I think she should be fine. I'll go get her release papers." The stout nurse waddled off as Marcus rushed in, running to his loves side.
The man gripped her hands, terrified of losing her. "Elizabeth, are you alright..?"
Her voice almost didn't reached him, barely a whimper amidst the cacophony of machines and people in the hospital. "I'll be fine honey... Are you okay?"
"What? Of course I am, you're the one in that bed right now aren't you?" He giggled nervously, holding back his tears, and hugged her close. "I'm so glad you're alright..."
Her shaky hand found its way to the mans face as she gave him a long passionate kiss "I'll always be fine honey..." Soon, the stubby nurse returned with Elizabeth's release papers. Marcus had drawn his jacket over his love and walked out of the room to take care of the paperwork, and as he had left, she reached into his pocket to borrow a cigarette to light when they had gotten outside, but what she had found instead was a different box.
When Marcus had returned, Elizabeth was in tears. Holding the box close to her chest, she couldn't stop herself from crying.
"H-Honey? Is it back again? Are you alright? Rushing to her side once more, worried, she wrapped her arms around his neck.
Her voice was shrill and she couldn't hold back her emotions. A loud scream echoed through the halls. "YES MARCUS!! YES I WILL!!" The man was shocked, but held her even tighter.
A needed smile spread over his face as he took the gold diamond ring out of the box and slipped it onto her finger. "I was hoping for a perfect day... L-Like today was without the hospital visit... I was just so nervous to ask you..."
"Marcus Bride," She held his face, looking deep into his eyes. "I wouldn't of had it any other way.. We could be homeless, barely living day to day and you could have proposed to me with a slice of pizza, I still would have said yes..."
