When you were a little kid, Hydra kidnapped you and experimented on you. You met two other little kids there, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. The three of you became close friends until you were moved to another base a year later.
When you became an Avenger years later, you reunited with Pietro and Wanda in Sokovia. At first, you didn't recognize them, but often bantered with Pietro while fighting. After he joined your side, you spoke more, but didn't realize you knew each other till the ride back to New York.
(Which, by the way, Pietro was alive for because he has super speed and easily pushed Clint and the little boy out of the way instead of taking bullets for them)
