Florida.
Max and I are sitting across from each other enjoying our lunch at a chic-fil-a. I look up from my box of fries to see him sipping on a large iced tea.
"You want to go where?" I ask thinking I heard him incorrectly the first time. He sets his cup down on the tray nearest him and holds up his pointer finger, indicating he needs a moment as he swallows the last few drops of tea that were already in his mouth.
"Florida." He says when he recovers.
"Why Florida?"
He shrugs, "Why not Florida?"
"Good point."
"Of course it's a good point. I made it."
I sigh, "So I guess we'll be using the private jet?"
"Actually, I was thinking that since going on a roadtrip has been on our list of stuff to do for a while we might as well do it now."
I throw my hands up in exasperation, "You never use that thing! Honestly I don't know why you have it."
"What? The jet?"
"Yes!"
"I do use it!"
I cross my arms and lean back into my chair, "Oh really now. When then?"
He copies my pose, "Oh um well there was that one time when-"
"Exactly, you never use it!
"Well think about it this way," He stands up gathering all the trash onto one tray and then slides the other one underneath. He grins, "I now have ultimate bragging rights"
"Only you could spend thousands of dollars for 'bragging rights', I say shaking my head.
"Whatever. So are you in?" He asks hopefully.
"Duh, of course I'm in!"
His eyes light up and the smile of a happy 3 year old kid drapes his face as he jumps up a little bit. "Yes!" A used packet of ketchup that isn't completely empty falls off the tray and splatters on his jacket. I burst out laughing at the sight of that.
"What?" He asks.
I cover my mouth trying to control my laughter and point to the stain. He looks down at himself searching for whats wrong.
"I don't see anything."
"How do you not see it?"
He spots the stain, "Oh come on! This is my favorite jacket!"
"Oh calm down it's not the end of the world," I shrug, "Just wash it."
"But then that means I can't wear it tomorrow"
"I'm sure you'll live."
"You don't know that." He reaches into his pocket and digs out his car keys then tosses them to me. "I have to go to the bathroom. If you want you can wait in the car for me, just don't break anything."
I spin the keys around on my finger, "I make no promises."
