Fuck. You curse under your breath. Your bag is slowly sliding off your shoulder. Sweats dripping down your forehead and your knuckles turning white from how hard you are gripping your thumbs. You should've known better than to leave at night.
It has been exactly 6 days since your encounter with the stranger. The food you stored has been slowly running out but that isn't the bit of your concern. The water has suddenly run out and you knew it was your cue to move places. How could you think that it was a good decision to sneak in the night?
Your legs are giving out but there is no way you can stop them unless you have a death wish. Multiple footsteps are right behind you and you have less than 2 seconds to think if you should take the left or right.
Following your gut feeling has sent you straight to hell. Dead End.
You can neither stop nor turn back. Looking around promptly, you spot a huge red truck. With no thought, you sprint straight behind it.
Silence engulfs you for a good minute other than your loud pants. Just when you thought you have lost them. The truck shakes as if some force is being applied to it and it emits a loud alarm as if notifying their owners that something is breaking into it.
Shit shit shit.
This is gonna lead all the lurkers in the whole city to you. Shadows emerge from behind the truck and your knees tremble. This is it. This is the end. It's not like you expect yourself to outlive the catastrophe but then the narcissist in you thought you could hold on longer than this.
BOOM!
Your eyes jerk open and you are immediately met with a quick blinding light. The footsteps moving away from you and towards somewhere else which you assume wherever the loud sound was from.
You release a long breath you were holding and plan your escape when a cold hand wraps around your wrist and pull you away. You yelp loudly and flinch when another hand clasp harshly on your mouth.
Your eyes squint to take in a silhouette of a man about a foot taller than you hovering over you.
"Be quiet and just follow me if you want to live." He murmurs beside your ear.
You timidly nod and let him pull you towards what it looks like a small alleyway."Who are you? Where are you taking me?" Your questions were left unanswered until you reach a main road. "Trust me. I'm leading you to safety." The man replies in a low voice.
You follow him with hesitant steps which soon lead both of you to a wood.
He helps you climb over a long fence and the two of you walk in silence."Was it you before?"
"Oh that one? Yeah, flash grenades are really effective to distract them. It was kinda funny to watch you almost shitting your pants so I offer you a hand." You could almost feel him smirking.
You scoffed. "Well I owe you one then."
"We're here."
You look up to come face to face with what it looks like a two storey cabin which look quite intact considering how dystopic the world is. It has pretty flower pots laid out on the lawn and a huge veranda overlooking the lake. Totally the perfect location to get away from all the bustling city.
You now could make out what your savior looks like with the help of the weak lighting luminating from the cabin's huge clear windows. He has silky dark hair with blonde streaks and a pointy nose. His sharp jawline definitely being his best feature and overall he looks dashing.
The sound of the door creaking halts you from further observing the stranger. Taking slow steps, your eyes take in the view of a spacious living room with a huge curved TV attached to the wall. The chandelier hanging high on the ceiling and polished wooden floor reflecting the dim wall lights.
"Jay! Thank goodness you're back. You were taking so long oh-" The person who emerged from what it seems like the kitchen looks taken aback by your presence scanning you from head to toe.
"Oh right Sunoo. She's..." Your rescuer whose name you learnt is Jay trails off and looks at you raising an eyebrow.
"I-I'm Kang Serri. Nice to meet you." You reply almost as a whisper but still manage to stutter.
"Right. She was having some difficulties while I was on my way back so as a person with conscience I brought her here." Jay states while slouching on the leather lounge huffing out an exhausted breath.
"You know Hee wouldn't like that." Sunoo replies back with a frown.
"I know. Ugh! I don't wanna deal with his ass today." Jay makes a long sigh.
"Dude I'm telling you I really heard it with my own ears!" A voice rings from the staircase adjacent from your position. It sounds oddly familiar but you can't pinpoint where you've heard it before. Just then someone's figure comes into view and your eyes widen.
"Jongseong?" You ask yourself under your breath but still audible enough.
"Huh?" Jay straightens his back in shock.
"What is Jongseong doing here?"
"What are you saying? I'm Jongseong." Jay's eyes widen in amusement and follows your gaze.
"Wait, that's Sunghoon you're staring at."
"Sunghoon?"
Just then, you find yourself staring at the eyes of the person you were talking about. His mouth hangs open and he takes a few strides to where you are.
"What are you doing here, little one?"
