Prompt: Create your diner
Application: Write a 400–650-word description of your diner
The wind howled like wolves as Y/n made her way to the lone diner in the city. She struggled to keep her hair out of her face from the breeze. It had been quite some time since she had been to the little diner. Now, as Y/n and her friends started to have more free time, they started wandering back to the diner.
As the 70-year-old building came into view, a small smile graced Y/n's scarlet painted lips. Her pace quickened as she crossed the last road that led to the diner. MUSICAL DINER burnt out letters spelt. It made Y/n feel a small pit grow in her stomach as her eyes hit the timeworn diner, but a feeling of cheer sprouted in her heart at the same time as a whiff of food hit her nose.
The hinges on the glass and copper doors creaked like there was no tomorrow when they were opened. Y/n closed the doors more cautiously, as if the whole building were to break and crumble if she didn't. The doors didn't sound as if they were croaking in agony anymore at the softer touch. After the doors had been properly shut, the woman turned around to see the diner still in all of its glory.
An older lady behind the counter immediately recognized Y/n. "Y/n, is that you?" She asked, bewildered to see a sophisticated young lady instead of a little girl.
"Hello, miss Emily. How have you and your family been?" Y/n sat down at one of the bar stools.
Miss Emily smiled. Not just a normal smile, but one that held a fond kindness and joy. "We all are doing well. How about yourself?"
"I am also doing good." Y/n replied as she tapped the back of her f/c lace up high heels on the metal legs of the chair, a habit she had picked up over the years.
"I assume you'd like the usual?" Miss Emily asked with a slight hint of amusement, just as she had done long ago when Y/n was still little.
"Of course." Charlie nodded.
Miss Emily turned around as she began making the bacon and eggs she remembered making. Miss Emily's hands grabbed a textured plastic cup before she filled it up with a drink. The carbonated liquid fizzed and crackled within the cup, as if looking for a way to escape the clear cylinder that it was poured into. All at the same time Miss Emily and Y/n carried out their conversation about what Y/n worked on, and how Miss Emily's sons and husband were.
As the cup began to turn colder, Miss Emily set it down on the counter for Y/n. Before Y/n had a chance to take a sip, a hand placed itself down on her shoulder. It made Y/n pause and look over.
It had been a musician who had placed their hand on Y/n's shoulder. "Y/n! Welcome back!" The singer greeted.
Y/n immediately identified the stranger. "Miko! Good to see you again." (If you know, you know)
No one in the state could forget Miko. Her Fuchsia and onyx hair stood out like cornflowers in a field of red creeping thyme. Miko always wore some type of clothes that would both clash and match at the same time.
"So... Are you going to be playing with us?" Miko motioned towards the guitar case that leaned against the stool Y/n sat on.
"We'll see." Y/n gave Miko a somewhat mischievous grin as she noticed how Miko held her electric guitar in front of her, it shining so much that it might as well have been a mirror.
So, that's how Y/n spent the rest of her day. Singing like there wasn't a care in the world, and playing instruments like the world might end, and receiving loud applause from bystanders. The sound of guitars, drums, and pianos filled the small diner with melodic vibration as everyone had a good time, just like years ago.
