Steren - Age 7

"Mommy look, I drew you something." The little girl ran out of her bedroom to the kitchen where the oldest redhead was cooking dinner. The little girl knew her mother loves art, so did her older sister so Steren also wanted to love art.
She had spent a week working on a painting to show her mother, her mother always seemed impressed when Clary did it.

Hearing the little girls calls ringing through the apartment, Jocelyn mental groaned, hearing her and seeing her youngest child made a hatred grow inside of her. However much the little girl looked like her, Jocelyn still saw valentine in it.
Jocelyn remembered when she found out that she was pregnant with the girl, valentine had found her however he was glamoured to look like her boyfriend at the time. Let's just say after the truth was discovered Jocelyn hated the girl for her father's actions.

Jocelyn turned to see the girl in front of her holding out a painting, and God Jocelyn hated it. How dare the thing she hated so much, that reminded her of valentine have her talent.

"It's you Mummy, I also made one of Clary, it's in my room. I can't wait to show her! Do you like it mommy?" The girl couldn't stop smiling and giggling in her excitement. The girl was so lively and expressive, jumping up and down in joy.

Jocelyn couldn't move, she was frozen until she did the only thing she felt capable of doing. The little girl in all her excitement missed her mothers expression so it came as a complete shock as the back of her mother's hand connected with her cheek.

Steren froze in shock, the 7 year old couldn't comprehend what had happened let alone her mother taking the drawing from her small hands and ripping it up.
So overwhelmed all she could do was cry, her mother never said anything. Her mommy didn't scream at her, didn't tell her what she did wrong. Was her drawing bad? No her mommy just ignored her and went back to cooking like the girl crying in her kitchen didn't exist.

Steren - Age 10

Clary Fray and her best friend Simon Lewis, a small nerdy boy, were in the apartment to celebrate her birthday. Clary loved her birthday, she loved her mother's presents but they were never a surprise as she knew all her mother's hiding places.

Jocelyn had just handed Clary a present as Steren entered the living room with a small wrapped box in her hands, going unnoticed by everyone in the room she watched her big sister open the gift.

Jocelyn smiled as her daughter let out a squeal at the gift inside, sure they were expensive especially for an artist but her daughter deserved the best. Clary had received a set of 30 Old Holland oil paints.
As her sister hugged their mum, Steren smiled, she was happy for her sister she just hoped her gift would also be well received by her older sister.

"Clary can I give you my gift?" The older girl jumped when she had heard the voice, so did everyone else. They had been so focused on the gifts that the did not notice the other Fray enter the room.
Jocelyn glared at the girl who she had told to stay in her room. Steren knew she should disobey her mum but she wanted to give Clary her gift.

Recovering from the shock, Clary nodded and took the small box. She was already a little disappointed at the size. Could her sister not have gotten her something more?
Plastering on a smile Clary opened the gift disappointed to see a small set of paint brushes.

Steren was never good at reading facial expressions so rambled. "I knew you love to pain so I got you personalize brushes see," the little girl excitedly pointed to the handle of the brush where in gold lettering said 'Clary Fray'.

"I had to get them done by my friend Mr Martin who li" Before she could continue excitingly explaining the gift to her sister Clary cut her off.

"Really, you only got me brushes. I have hundreds plus these are cheap, they are not even made of real animal hair. Their made of polyester." Clary ranted about the quality of the brushes. Steren's heart slowly broke, all she had wanted to do was do something nice for her sister.

"Really Steren, do you not care about your sister at all? All that pocket money I gave you should have been spent on this gift. Do you really have to mess everything up? So much like your father, only caring about yourself." Jocelyn's temper burst, Luke tried to calm her down. Clary and Simon were talking and ignoring everything around them.

At the sight of the daughter she loved, she finally calmed. She then reassured her eldest daughter that she would buy her better art brushes to apologize for the terrible gift.

Again Steren's heart broke, she left the room silently and crawled into bed crying.
