Emily,

I saw you running away from the cafeteria at lunch,

With tears falling from your eyes.

I followed you,

And watched you break down

In a distance.

You sat under the oak tree,

Holding the flowers I left at your locker this morning.

I took a deep breath

While I gathered all the courage I've been saving,

And sat down next to you.

I wonder if you heard

My heart pounding against my chest,

And the loud screams inside my mind.

You lifted your head

And we both looked into each other's eyes.

You are more beautiful up close.

You apologized for crying

But I shook my head;

Because I know you've been trying to hold

All the pain behind the smiles and laughter.

I think it's okay to fall apart.

It's alright to be human,

Even just for a while.

After that,

Not a single word passed between us.

Maybe we didn't need words,

Because our presence is enough

To fill the silence

And the emptiness

Inside our messed up lives.

I will look after you from now on.

I promise Emily.

I wish you would know how much I like you.
