Dillion

I paced the hospital floors waiting for one of my parents to come back and tell me what the hell was going on with my little sister. I wanted to kill Liam and his dad for putting her through this. Alex too. She's been through so much. Too much.

I wanted a drink. Like an annoying itch in my brain, the thought irritated me. Desperate for relief, I wanted to give in. I am wound so tight and I know just one drink will help me relax. I needed to get out of here.

"Honey! There you are!"

"Mom! How's Cat?"

"She still being monitored."

"She hasn't woken up yet?"

My mom bit her bottom lip, and her eyes filled with tears. I grabbed her and pulled her in for a hug. "She'll be okay, Mom. She'll pull through this."

"How, Dillion? She's a fighter but even the best fighters when taking too many punches go down for the count. Liam. Alex. The baby. It's all too much. How is she supposed to cope with all of this?"

I hold my mother away from me and dried her eyes with my sleeve. "She not alone, Mom. She has us- you, me, dad. We won't let her give up. We'll help her keep going. Cat never once gave up on me. I refuse to give up on her."

Saying that out loud made my next decision clear. "Mom, I got to get to a meeting. All this... I need to... I'm afraid..."

My mom caressed the side of my face, her smile was heartbreaking. "Go. Your father and I are here. We'll let you know if anything changes, the moment it does. Okay?"

"I feel so guilty leaving. I just..."

She pulled my head down with her hands and placed a kiss on my forehead. It's reminiscent of the hundreds of times she'd do that to me as a kid whenever my troubles became too great. Usually, when I was stressing out over my dad. Magically it worked as it always had to calm my mind.

"Go," she said.

I sighed and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "I'll have my ringer turned off in the meeting. So, text me if anything changes. Okay?"

"Go." She shoo-ed me away with her hands, a sad smile still lingered on her lips.

I nodded and took my leave. Once outside I called my sponsor.

"Hey! What's up?"

"I need to get to a meeting."

"There's one at St. Luke's in about 30 minutes. You want me to meet you there?"

"No. I'm fine. Well, no I'm not fine but I'm going. I'm getting myself to that meeting. You don't have to worry about me."

"Whenever someone tells me I don't have to worry about them is usually when I worry the most. This is about more than just you falling off the wagon, and Olivia isn't it?"

"It's Cat. She's in the hospital again. I'm scared, Dominic. I don't want to lose my little sister."

"Is it the baby? She's not having a miscarriage, is she?"

"No nothing like that. It's that blood pressure thing I told you about. Alex left her. She and my Dad got into it and she blacked out. Normally she'd snap out of it by now but..."

"Yeah, that's it. I'm coming and don't think you can talk me out of it."

Dominic's words brought a smile to my lips despite the turmoil happening in my head.

"Wouldn't dream of it, but let me go. I need to call for a lift."

"Alright. Meet you there."

"Yeah." I hung up and called for a ride. Someone was right around the corner so I got to the meeting on time.
