DRUIG POV

Ash. It was all around us. Surrounding the air we breathed and smothering the magnificent architecture that used to be. The once beautiful city we used to call home was now on fire, covered with ruins and rubble. It was a blood bath down there. The flickering lights that burned from the fire illuminated the faces of the warriors and the faces of the helpless. Looking down at the mess below, I couldn't help but think I was to blame.
How many times has something like this occurred? How many times was I forced to do nothing knowing that I could do something? Knowing that with only a simple glance into their minds, I could stop it all. But they were always there to stop me.  Well now, I've had enough.  I will no longer stand aside and watch these people bring about their own destruction.
Closing my eyes, I focused.  I focused on scratching at their brains and peeling away their control and peering into their minds as though it was my own.  With a command, I told them to lay down their weapons, to lay down their greed and to follow me. Just as I was about to finish, I was suddenly shoved against the temples wall with an angry looking Ikiris in my face. "Let them go," he said. "You're going to have to kill me first." I replied. The others knew that this time I would not be stopped.   Shrugging him of, I decided to lead the people deep into the forest but my heart ached.
It ached for the family that I was about to leave behind and it ached for her.  I know I couldn't just ask her to leave her world behind and to follow me into a new world filled with nothing but uncertainty.  I just knew I couldn't, but I couldn't help myself when I turned around and looked deep into her beautiful brown eyes.  Makkari was always a sight to behold.  A smile from her lips could make my heart stop.  Her beautiful curly hair that she always had pinned or braided out of her face always seem to catch on fire in the sunlight.
Her flirtatious yet playful manner whenever I was around had always made me feel lightheaded and left me in awe. But all of that was gone now.  Looking at her face all I saw was worry, dread and even fear.  She looked as though she was being pulled in to two different directions.  She looked behind her and saw the family that she knew for millenniums.  She shared her life with them.  And then she turned and looked at me.  How could she ever consider choosing me when she had them. She shared her joy with them, her laughter and even her pain.  I saw a split second of hesitation behind her eyes until finally, she looked back at our family and signed "I'm going with him."  With tears in her eyes she turned around and hurled herself into my arms.
