Crowded Room

Lost in a room filled with people.

All familiar faces.

Yet not one comforting to me.

A dreaded feeling filling the depths of my heart as I look around.

It dawns on me how alone I am in this crowded room.

Not one notices my discomfort.

Silently I stand and watch as reality passes in front of my eyes.

Everyone too wrapped in their own reality to notice the lack of mine.

I watch as people around me carry on; smiles, laughs, jokes all around me.

Fake smile, fake laugh, forced jokes escaping my lips.

No one noticing how forced one seems.

Loneliness, unbefitting, detached, put aside.

I look around the room again and see that there's another just like me.

Eye contact, one smile.

We meet half way a laugh escaping our lips.

For the first time, it dawned on me that I may not be as alone as I think.

After all, I just found someone just like me.

This time is different.

No more fake smiles or forced laughs escaping my lips.

After all, I just found someone like me.
