Chapter 3

Mine

The little girl had run past Waren and toward the back of the bus. Waren gave chase. He didn't stop her, he didn't want to know what that man wanted with them. He just knew that when he said they were looking for him, in the back of his head he instantly figured it had something to do with his uncle.

Opening the emergency exit and climbing out helping her down. He lead her down an alleyway and through a broken door. Within were rows and rows of boxes. The place was huge and he couldn't see any other door save for the one that had a truck sticking out of it. The back of the truck was opened, but nothing was inside.

The little girl stood up hearing the man call out from the mouth of the alleyway.

"This way! The brats broke a door!"

Waren started trying his best to open a box. His fingers were tiny and that was probably his saving grace. He opened the box up and helped the girl inside. He climbed in after and let the top of the box fall back into place.

Waren was glad it was day or he was sure their glowing eyes would have given them away.

"Hey old man!" The new york accent drifted over the warehouse. A voice echoed within the room.

"I don't know who you fellas are, but if you ain't in here to buy something you should leave." The voice was gruff, and demanding. You could tell that he was into money and that was it. He wasn't going to let these bully's mess with him.

"Ah we ain't here for trouble. Just lookin for some kids. They broke down your door." He motioned to the door. The guy looked around at the door and laughed.

"Nah nah, those doors have been busted. The place is old and needs renovations. I got it on a dime. Using it for my lay about. I got to stock my store after all." He held out a card. The guy looked at it.

"A thrift store huh?" He chuckled as he waved the card around. "Well alright. If you find any kids with glowing neon eyes. Look me up." He put his own card down on a box and turned to leave. He chuckled as he left. Monty put the door back up onto its hinges.

Waren put his fingers to his lips trying to keep the sniffling girl quiet.

There was a light tap on the box.

"You can come out now. I don't want to hurt kids." He opened the box and looked inside. Waren pulled the little girl to him. "It's alright, I might look a bit worse for wear, but I don't bite." He picked up a box and started to load it up into the truck.

"You want a good place to hide?" He motioned to the truck. "Help me load these boxes and I'll take you somewhere safe." He turned around watching as Waren picked up a box. "Names Ronin." He introduced himself.

"I'm Waren Jaco...I mean Styles." Ronin looked confused for a moment.

"Jacobs or Styles kid?"

"Tish...just Tish." The little girl looked bashful.

Ronin scanned the girl and shook his head.

"Him...so Borgs making kids now huh? Yeah...he's gone from work robots, to companions now I guess." He slowly walked over to the truck again.

"Borg...?" Waren looked at Tish. Tish ran her fingers over her hair and nodded.

"My parents are Borg made police officers." Ronin looked up at the boy and narrowed his eyes.

"Great...just what I need." He mumbled and motioned. "Come on...the sooner we go the sooner I can make lunch." Was it lunch time already?

Beck looked around at the receptionist as she called out for him.

"We got a disturbance from up the street. Looks like some crazy people stopped a school bus and tried to kidnap a few kids." Beck looked baffled as he motioned to Heil who nodded picking up his cloak.

"Alright we'll get right on it." He called out picking up the case report.

"Anyone hurt?" Heil asked, he was the one with first aid training.

"The bus driver was thrown down on the ground, but other than that she's fine. Scraps and nothing else. Poor dear was shaken up.

Beck climbed into the car and turned it on. He looked at Heil who sat down beside him pulling on his seatbelt.

"Every time one of these happens it scares me to pieces." Heil admitted. Beck had to admit, it did for him too.

Pulling up to the bus that was empty now. The bus driver was on the curb drinking a cup of tea.

"Can you stand?" It was one of the first responders. Beck's heart leapt into his throat as he noticed the school's name, the bus number, and his son's bus driver. He looked around at Heil.

"Ms. Stuart?" Beck called. She looked up at him and slowly stood up motioning to them. She pointed toward the alleyway.

"He ran that way...the men ran after them. I don't know what happened. I'm so sorry Beck." She started to cry. Beck patted her back and handed her a handkerchief.

"It's alright madam. You did nothing wrong, and you protected them as well as could be expected of you. Rest now and recover. Let us do our jobs." Beck turned to look at Heil who's hand was in front of his face.

"What do we do?" Heil whispered as he followed Beck toward the alleyway finding the door once again on its side.

"We do what we do best..." The red dot in the corner of his eyes flashed a few times. "We will get our son back."

A light began to flash in the corner of the Bounty's monitor. Zane looked round at the small beep it was making.

"What is it, Zane?" Lloyd asked, blowing off his cup of cocoa. He had just come back from patrolling.

"It's Beck...somethings happened with Waren."
