Athena pov

The scent of freshly polished wood and the subtlety of woman's cologne was the first thing that greeted me when I stepped through the doors of my parent's house

....home

No place like it, and over the years it becomes the refuge rather than the prison it once was in our childhood

"Mom! Dad!Sean!Trialla!"I yelled as I made my way past the threshold of the house dragging my suitcase behind me

"In here honey!" my mothers voice filtered and I smiled

It was good to be back home

I left my bag at the door making a mental note to give everyone their gifts later as I walked to the sound of my mom's voice

As I walked into our grand kitchen ... wait that wasn't here before

I did a quick 360 as I surveyed the newness of this old room I was used to

The old kitchen table with years worth of scratches symbolizing the fights we had as kids had been replaced with a brand new shiny mahogany table with matching upholstered chairs and the old vase full with fake roses had been removed and replaced with the real thing and a vase that looked like it costed more than my monthly grocery budget ....okay bad example I seem to live off far less than the average human

The kitchen breakfast bar was replaced with a brand new granite counter top and it looked like something straight out of a home renovation magazine

I finally turned back to face my family and I plastered a smile on my face

I barely had a second to blink and get out a greeting before I was attacked

Trialla bounced out of her chair and almost knocked me to the ground while Sean closed us all into a giant bear hug....since when did this guy become so huge....or did I just shrink?

"Athena!!! we missed you so much" trialla yelled at top of her lungs and I tried not to flinch at the sound

"I missed you too al," I said as she broke away from all but strangling me ...thank God. In order to give everyone else a turn to greet me

"I see you changed a bit attie ...whose the guy..better yet can I smash his face in?" Sean my older brother asked and I rolled my eyes and playfully hit his chest

"No you may not because there is no guy"

He in turn messed up my hair and let me fall right into my mom's embrace

The sweet scent of the perfume she wore reminded me of all the times I'd cried and felt sick all over her ....it was a scent that made me feel safe ...one only she could pull off at that too

"You look wonderful honey...can I make you some tea? Your flight must have been exhausting..." she rambled and fussed before she decided not to ask and simply do

Before I knew it I was engulfed on the scent of pine and Cigars....dad

"I was beginning to think we might have lost you to the Scottish" his deep voice rumbled against my cheek and I giggled

"You lot can't get rid of me that easily ...besides things have been busy lately I'm just glad I was able to make it home for a bit"

After high school I studied literature, and by the time I was done my book was published by a house down in Scotland, and when the time came I up and moved down there to be closer to my agent since the book series needed my every ounce of time and energy which meant I wasn't always able to be around for every milestone which was a bittersweet feeling

"Well that's always a good thing home is where the heart is" moms voice rang and the kettle whistled

I found my seat at the table and immediately flinched at how comfy the new seats were...I was hoping to be home and have all the trimming of it but clearly, things have changed while I was away

Mom poured out some tea and I noticed how everyone's eyes landed on me and I wondered if I had something on my face

"What's wrong ?" I asked and I played with my teabag in my cup

"Uhmmmm...mom Denise wants me to come over ill see you guys later okay" trialla said as she raced

Her departure was followed shortly by Sean who mumbled something about sending an email to his girlfriend

.....okay what the hell just happened
