One Month Later
"Hey, guys. Thanks for coming," Jack said when Brian, Seth, and I walked up to his house.
"No problem. Thanks for inviting us," Brian said.
"You're welcome. Everybody's in the garage. There's a taco salad there."
"Alright!" Seth runs to the garage.
"I hope you guys have fun." Jack pats Brian on the shoulder then walks to a family that came.
Brian takes my hand and walks with me to the garage. We went inside to see a bunch of people either sitting at a table or standing.
"Holy shit," I said.
"Yeah, I know," Brian said. "I hope there's more food left."
"There will be. My wife will be making more." A man stood by us.
"Hi, Mr. O'Donnell," Brian said.
"Hi, Brian. And who is this young man?"
"This is Chris Carrera." Brian wraps his arm around me.
"Oh, right. Louisa and Esteban's grandson. It's nice to meet you." He reaches his hand out to me.
I shook it. "It's nice to meet you, too."
"Why don't you two try to find a seat; there's more outside." He smiled at us and walked away.
"Nice guy," I said.
"He sure is," Brian said. "Let's get something to eat and drink."
I piled my plate with tacos, chips, salad, and grabbed a can of Coke. Brian and I walked outside and saw Seth sitting with our friends. We walked to them and sat down.
"Hey," Tristan said.
"Hey," Brian said. "Anything going on?"
"Not much," Michelle said.
"Cool." Brian started to eat.
"Are you guys doing anything special for the summer?" Kalani asked.
"Emma and I are going to Little Falls with our family next week," Tristan said.
Xavier turns to Emma. "You are?"
"Just for a couple of weeks," she told him.
"Oh." He looks down at his empty plate.
"Are you doing anything, Xavier?" Paul asked.
"Not that I know of."
"Are you going with them, Kalani?" Sophia asked.
"No, I'm volunteering at camp again."
"Are you doing anything, Chris?" Seth asked me.
"Going to St. Paul next month."
"Just to see your old friends and family?" Jane asked.
"Yeah, and for Natalia's birthday. And Brian's coming with us, too."
"He is?" Seth looks at him.
"Yes, Seth. I told you that last week. Weren't you paying attention?"
"Um...yes?"
Brian scowled and went back to eating.
"Hey, guys."
We looked to see Gabriella, Wilbur, Ramona, Jarrod, and Tanisha walking to us.
