Mom advised me to stay home in church on Sunday while the rest of the family went. Aunt Isabelle came over with Louisa because she got a cold last night and Aunt Isabelle stayed up with her all night, and to keep me company.

"So how are things going for you, Christopher?" she asked, rocking a sleepy Louisa. We're in the living room where we are watching The Fox and the Hound.

"Good." I started to pick at my sweatpants.

"Just good? Nothing else?"

"No."

She puts a now asleep Louisa in her carrier and said, "You know, your mother told me something happened on Friday."

"She did?"

"Yes. You know, it came as a shock to me that you're gay, Christopher."

"Really?"

"Yes, it really was."

"Why is that?"

"I don't know; I just found it shocking, that's all. I mean, you kissed a girl before, right?"

"That was in the fourth grade," I groaned.

"Sorry about that," she said. "It's just, looking back now, maybe I should've known that you're gay when you were younger, like the time I saw you drooling at Chris Evans."

"Oh, not you, too," I said.

"Yes, me too," she said with a grin on her face. "So your parents also told me you wanted to ask me something?"

"I do?" I think back to what I wanted to ask her, but then I remembered when I came out to my parents. "Oh, um, yeah. Grandpa said that you should tell me why we haven't seen Uncle Joey until Thanksgiving."

Her face falls. "Oh, well, um, you know that's I got mad at Uncle Joey when you were six, right?"

"Yes, I did know that."

"Did you remember how you met Ronnie?"

"Not really."

"Well, here's the thing." She turns a little. "Before Ronnie went out with Joey, I dated him."

"But Ronnie's gay." I then hit the realization. "Oh."

"Yeah. Ronnie hadn't come out because his family's really homophobic."

"So he was using you as a...?" What's the word I'm looking for?

"A beard," she said. "We met two months before at the library where I was looking at some books. We both reached for The Great Gatsby, and for me, I started to fall for him."

"What about him?"

"I thought he was falling for me too, but then I realized for him, I was someone that he could use."

"Then what happened?"

"Well, two weeks later, I introduced him to you guys. He hit it off with Joey right away."

"How did you find out about the two of them?" I asked.

"One day, I went to Ronnie's apartment because he hasn't been answering my calls for the last three days. When I entered the apartment, I saw them on the couch, making out."

"Whaaat?" I said.

"Yeah, I got so angry I grabbed a vase and hit Ronnie with it. I then went back to your guy's place and told your parents what I saw."

"You outed Uncle Joey and Uncle Ronnie?" I asked.

"Uncle Joey was already out," she said. "I was so pissed off about Ronnie making out with one of my brothers. Joey and Ronnie came over later and the three had a big blow up. When I asked Ronnie how he could do this to me, he told me he was never in love with me and started to fall for Joey. I screamed and started to attack him. Your father managed to get me off of him as I was clawing at him and punching him in the face. I told them to get out of my face and not to see me again.

"Then two years later, I learned they got married in Utah where they live now. I was so upset because Uncle Joey found a man that he can marry and I can't. So I decided to get out of St. Paul and move back in with Mom and Dad. I never thought I could get over it until I met Stanley."

"Where did you two meet?" I asked.

"Hugo's. We were both getting chicken. He looked over at me and told me I was the most beautiful girl he have ever met. The first thing I said to him was, "Are you gay?" I felt so stupid right there, but he just laughed and said that he's not."

"Oh, Aunt Isabelle," I said.

"I know; it was foolish of me. I never thought I was going to see him again until a week later at Hugo's again. He remembered me and asked if I wanted to hangout and I said yes. We've been going out ever since."

"That's sweet," I said.

"I know. I got over Joey and Ronnie the more I got out with Stanley. I was so happy that I finally got to meet someone who actually loves me and doesn't uses me."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." She smiled. "I actually found my true love. He proposed to me where we had our first date, which was at the movie theater. Married a year later and now we have our little girls." She looks back at Louisa. "My life is so happy now."

I smiled at her. I wonder if I'll be happy in my future. All I just hope is that Brian will be a part of it. He has to be.

Just as the movie got done, everybody got home. We had leftovers for lunch, then I did my homework. I'm still anxious to go to school tomorrow because I still don't know what will happen. I just hope it doesn't go very bad.

♥️♥️♥️

I woke up at six the next morning and started to feel dreadful. Monday. Time to go to school and feel humiliated.

I took a quick shower and got dressed. I put everything into my backpack. Maybe I'll pretend to be sick so I won't have to go, but Mom will catch my lies anyway. Those damned doctors.

I walked upstairs to see my parents in the kitchen. Shouldn't Mom be gone by now?

"Mom, why are you still here?" I asked.

Mom turned away from the stove. "We ran into your principal yesterday at church and she said she wanted to talk to the three of us before school starts."

"Really?" I asked.

"Yes," Dad said.

"What is it about?"

"I think you know what it is," Mom said. She puts the eggs on my plate. "We're gonna leave in a half-hour, so eat your breakfast and brush your teeth."

As I eat my breakfast, I can't stop thinking about the meeting we're going to have. Is she going to talk to us about the picture? Why would she talk to us about it? I hope I'm not going to be in trouble for it.

After I got done with breakfast and brushed my teeth, Mom grabbed her purse and said, "Let's go." We got into our car and left.
