_____The next time Cody was at Fezco's store, I was there, fresh out of rehab and sniffing around for drugs. He was outside, in the back with Nate Jacobs and McKay, helping them load a keg into the back of Nate's truck.

Cody and McKay were an awkward duo, you know the we-were-friends-until-you-stole-my-girl-after-we-split-but-like-we're-still-friends-who-still-need-to-talk-shit-out?

But that's how Cody saw it. He thought Cassie and McKay were dating. Thought they were dating because at the beginning of summer Nate Jacobs told him so. Now at the time Nate had been high out of his mind so nothing he said should be taken literally but Cody had been drunk, at his most vulnerable so of course he believed it.

He hadn't bothered to talk to Mckay about it, his ego was too strong for that. He just couldn't start the conversation.

He hated Mckay for what he did, and he probably always would. But in his mind he was smart because no McKay equaled no place to crash when your parents were being complete dicks, or no end of summer party with all the weed you could smoke and all the booze you could drink.

McKay had been Cody's escape more than once and he'd be stupid to give that up. Literally batshit crazy.

__

___He needed more drugs, but going through what he went through last week was not something he wanted to do to himself again. Giving fault to his large ego, Cody coaxed himself down from whatever pity pedestal he'd set himself on.

He, Cody Richardson shouldn't have to go through that again, going to a low class shitty convenience store to get drugs from a high school dropout and a no name piece of shit kid. He deserved better than that...though that weed had been amazing, fucking fire and he'd smoked it all in five days tops.

It worked miracles in calming him down, keeping him still, helping him sleep but he needed more.
Luckily he was at the store now, with McKay and Nate but going there to buy a keg and going there to buy fucking drugs were two very different things with two very different outcomes.

Looking at Fezco now, Cody silently praised himself.

He'd treated the jock like when they were in school before he dropped out and not like they'd had a run in at the shop a week ago.

It was all in disguise. Disguise, disguise, disguise.

His dad would have been proud, if he wasn't the chief police and his son wasn't buying drugs...
