____I just came here to the party for the drugs

_______

____Cody showed up at the party, a little while before I did, already a little drunk with a couple cans of beer he'd stolen from his fridge on the way out of the house. He'd had a while to think shit over, or, think shit over the only way a guy like Cody Richardson could.

He didn't.

He acted on impulses and tonight was a perfect time for those. He needed to find Cassie. And I needed to get drugged out of my fucking mind.

_

He needed to find her.

Already drunk, Cody made his way through the maze of McKay's house, palms sweaty, fingers shaking out his gray t-shirt and slipping in and out of the pockets of his jeans.

He was fucking nervous. They hadn't talked since school ended.

That chill buzz helped him find a grounding, converse planted firmly against the floor, but with it came a desperate need, a sort of pulling at his heartstrings. He needed to find Cassie.

There were people everywhere, cramping up Mckay's house with body heat, chill beats blasting from the speakers as bodies danced in harsh red led lights and bright fluorescents.

He found her quickly, sitting next to Mckay on the stairs, nose deep in a conversation.

She was beautiful, a baby blue dress hugging her figure perfectly, blonde waves dripping down that slender back and for the first time that night, Cody Richardson was speechless.

"You are literally the most beautiful girl I've ever seen," McKay was saying, Cassie smiling shyly down at her lap having not seen Cody yet.

The boy in question froze on the stairs as the words struck his ears, taking him back to when he'd said that exact same sentence before those three words tumbled out. Before he watched her slip through his fingers.

"Ay, careful, dude," he said, leaning against the railing. The words shot out like venom, intended to be casual but there was so much pent up anger inside him, it was impossible to be anything but.

The two looked at him and he scoffed, fingernails digging into palms. Looking directly into her eyes, he continued to speak, unblinking as he searched her face.

"Don't say shit she'll dump you for."

Cassie's face melted, surprise dripping into horror and
she groaned, looking nervously at McKay's uncomfortable expression before glaring back at him.
