It had been 3 days since Eunha ran away from home and ended up in Busan unplanned. Things were going okay for her right now, well that's what she liked to tell herself often whenever she would feel the depression catching up to her.
She was there, holding in barely. The next day she woke up, she finally realised the gravity of the situation she put herself in. That day when she had decided to run away was a blur, she could barely remember what had happened at their home in the correct order.
As far as she remembered, she had came to visit her parents during her break as usual. They were eating break fast when it happened. Somehow their conversation had steered to her studies. Apparently, her parents had thought she wasn't putting in enough efforts, for some reason. Nothing new but it still hurt her knowing that her parents would never appreciate her for anything nice she ever does.
Her parents loved to take out their frustrations on her often.
Her brother was also an asshole most of the times. Whenever he would decide to show some decency, Eunha would be very surprised. Unfortunately, that day wasn't one of those. He was quietly snickering in the corner of the room, eating his cereal while half lying half sitting on the couch.
Again, if Eunha showed that kind of 'animalistic' behaviour, according to her mother, one could only guess the amount of nagging she would get for a whole week.
She felt irritated. Why were they expecting everything from her? What about her brother? Why Was he excused from taking part in these activities humans do on a daily basis? What's so special about him?
And why did her parents only nagged at her for even the smallest mistake she makes. She really tried living her best. Always doing her best. Trying to make her parents proud. Trying to exceed their expectations, or atleast satisfy them. Just because she wanted her parents to be happy. But no. Her parents took her for granted for way too long.
That was the breaking point for Eunha, she couldn't handle it any longer. A human has a limit for everything. And so Eunha ran away.
Things weren't like this since the beginning though. And eunha could only wish they went back to how they were.
Eunha hugged herself.
It was chilly, which was really strange considering spring had started. She was wearing a thin cardigan, which did little to protect her from the cold. Another thing Eunha had noticed about herself was she felt cold. Alot. Most of the times.
In winters, she would be the first one to take thick blankets and sweaters out of her closet. And the last one to keep them back in. It was okay though. She really liked winters.
Ironically, winters gave her warmth she could never get in her teenage years. When she wanted support the most. When she was the most vulnerable.
Sweaters, hot chocolate, cute snowmen, the way her fingers felt numb after being too long in the cold made her feel so...full of warmth. She craved the feelings winter give her.
Though, she dislikes it a little too because in winters there is a special holiday called Christmas. And obviously she wasn't a huge fan of Christmas since there was no family she could happily and willingly return to.
Her feet slightly dug into the ground as she walked towards the supermarket. The 5 packs of ramen could only last too long and now it was time for another food haul.
Eunha entered through the glass doors. Once again, warm air and the weird smell of supermarkets greeted her.
She sighed in content.
First, she went to the very last section to grab a few bottles of strawberry milk. She loved strawberry milk. Her eyes unconsciously shifted to the right, where small pale yellow bottles of banana milk stood in the next three shelves.
Eunha's heart warmed as fond memories of a certain friend started playing in her mind. Alot of memories, crashing after one another like a broken record. She sighed and grabbed a bottle of banana milk too.
She really missed him. He was a great friend. Probably would've been one right now too. It really saddened her how unfortunate it was that they grew apart just like that. She still saw his face around her occasionally though. But he was so much different now.
Her feet slowly dragged across the smooth tiles of the store, making her way to the cash counter. She greeted the cashier a second time. She quickly paid with her card which she thankfully found in the back pocket of her jeans later that day, she started her short walk back to the apartment.
It was quiet on the streets now for some reason. Sure there were occasional sounds of horns and cars passing by on the main road, but the alley she was walking through felt dark and eerie. And she didnt want to acknowledge the sinking feeling she could feel in the pit of her stomach.
Just a few more minutes and I'll be home.
Thinking this, her legs quickened their pace. However her heart also started racing when she heard footsteps behind her. And as much as she didn't want to admit it, they sounded like someone was following her.
Shit.
Her eyes started getting glossy out of pure fear. She never thought something horrible would happen to her while she was trying to escape a horrible phase of her life. Just how great was her luck?
I just wanted a break what the hell? Is that too much to ask for?
She suddenly remembered the pepper spray she was sure was lying around in the outer pocket of her bag. The one which her mother handed to her while she was leaving for the dorms for the very first time."You can never be too safe okay? Take care and come back to visit us often."
Were the words her mother told her when she shoved the small bottle and her arms forcefully. She felt bad now. Maybe her family did care for her and she was just being overdramatic.
The memory quickly vanished when she felt the footsteps getting closer, she quickly pulled the zipper open and took the small bottle out. Her other hand hurriedly took the lid off just when a hand grabbed her other forearm.
"Hey-"
Eunha sprayed the pepper spray right on this creepy person's face. She didn't even stop when the man started screaming, furiously rubbing his eyes and hissing in pain.
The man was wearing a black cap and a black mask, which made it very difficult for her to see his face. But he must've realised how much of a bother his mask was being in the painful situation he got himself in and he swiped the mask in a swift motion while crouching and grumbling pain.
Eunha's eyes widened.
"Holy shit. Is that you Jungkook?"
