Chapter 5
Shadow
August 15th, XX57
The wind was cooling on my hot skin. Yin, Yang, and I had been driving on this freeway for about two hours heading towards our snatch and grab destination. I had broken free from our companion caravan about an hour ago but knew they were not too far behind. They had tried to call me but I ignored the stupid ringing sounds my collar made. I hated phones and most technological devices. They made no sense to me so I avoided them as much as possible.
This stupid collar was just about the only thing I couldn't get away from. It could easily connect me to the house I was currently bound to as well as all of my teammates. As a sort of walkie-talkie, or something along those lines. Despite nothing being in my ears the collar was able to send vibrations through my neck allowing me to hear them perfectly fine without the entire world hearing what my teammates were saying. Even in the dead of silence, their voices couldn't be heard except by myself, and my familiars of course.
A small ring comes from the collar. I roll my eyes. "God damn can't they just leave me alone!!" I growl between greeted teeth and finally smack the damn buzzing thing. "WHAT!!' I snapped at it. I hear a faint chuckle come through it.
"Hello princess, nice to see your beauty sleep has been with great success" came a man's voice.
"Jake!" snapped another voice. "Good god do you have a death wish!" a deep low growl came from my throat silencing the growing voices. I hear mason sigh heavily followed by a click.
"It's just me, trick, and Triss now" came Mason's calm voice. I stopped growling and settled for an angry snarl.
"Need to brief you Shadow. You bolted too quickly, you don't even know who you're grabbing" came Triss's soft voice. She had a point. I was too angry at being bated by the master and now bound to another night with him so soon. I sigh defeated.
"Fine...talk" I grumbled. I could hear her smile and nod to herself.
"Good boy." she chimed.
"You're looking for a blonde today. About 5 foot 3 inches with blue eyes and a scar across the left side of his neck" spoke trick.
"A scar? Is he not a slave?" I asked.
"Nope. he's the son of a wealthy businessman who was taken captive. Incidentally, he got sold on the black market and is being moved to become a feeder soon. Where to stop the transaction before they can transport him out of reach."
"Going international huh? Alright fine. Blonde boy gets a hero tonight. What about the others?"
"Their fair game. Have fun and knock the blonde out before you do. Or at least don't scar the poor lad. He's only in his early teens, barely hit puberty" sighed trick.
"Awww the wee poor lad" I smile. "Deal, no mentally scarring for the baby. Anything else you'd like to add?"
"You got the location?" he asked.
"Yep, helmet got the GPS showing now" the helmet I was wearing was equipped with a GPS in the eye cover. The screen created a thin blue line in the ground where I needed to go. When I would look around it wouldn't bug or move and remained on the ground as if painted there. It never changed unless you told the GPS to reroute and was removable if the driver preferred to do so.
"Good. we'll see you there then" trick clicked off followed by another click. Most likely Triss. She was always close to him and acted as a motherly figure to our teams. She was one of the few who could calm my rage. She just reminded me too much of my own mother to hold any anger in her direction. But I knew there was one more listening in.
