Emperor Godaigo, being the last remaining emperor of the Heishi region, couldn't indulge in such abhorrent practices as Minamoto wishes to marry Nozomi, Godaigo's sole daughter on pretenses as a gesture of good faith. The Heishi kingdom was once a prosperous kingdom under the rule of Emperor Yoritomo but after a political coup staged by his military generals its glory faded with Godaigo finally taking the reins. Godaigo was competently aware of Minamoto's ulterior motives to seize absolute control over the neighboring kingdoms using the marriage as a mere ploy to increase his bureaucratic influence schemes to put an end to it. Fearing losing his only daughter and kingdom at the hands of an insane hedonistic megalomaniac he enlists the help of Shingen, a samurai general formerly enlisted in his military clan who had left the imperial force for choosing a life devoid of violence. Godaigo assigns Shingen to investigate the whereabouts and the ulterior intentions of Minamoto and put an end to his nefarious schemes. But Shingen having shed countless blood and witnessing the insane horrors of war, now wanders around, as a Ronin and has no interest in meddling with any affairs. Even after numerous persuasions by Godaigo, Shingen refuses to return to the same violent ways to achieve what is truly necessary.
