Andrew didn't disappoint the next morning. Selina found him at the dining room table eating dinner with her father. She was equally surprised when her father smiled at her. His smile warmed her heart but filled her with confusion. She didn't understand why he would smile for her after all these years of treating her like she was the dirt on his shoe. Selina's father was never too cruel. He may have broken promises that she counted on, but he always provided for her.

"About time Sleepy Head! Your father was about to pour cold water on you to wake you! I thought you told me to get here early?" Andrew said as he pulled a chair out for Selina.

"Father made breakfast?" Selina asked.

"He sure did! I got here and he let me help! I never made pancakes before. It was quite an experience," Selina eyed her father as she sat down. Andrew pushed her chair in and sat down next to her. Her father's smile never left his face. Selina wasn't sure what was going on with him, it was certainly strange.

"What happens after breakfast? I've never done farm work before," Andrew's question made the mini-staring contest between Selina and her father end.

"Selina will show you the ropes," her father said as he got up from the table. He picked up the dishes from the table and started working on them.

Selina built herself up for the day and made her way outside.  As she led Andrew to the chicken coop, he began to wonder what was wrong with her.

"Selina, is it just me, or is something odd with you?" He asked.

She stopped in her tracks. Not meeting his eyes she said, "I don't know, my father was acting strange this morning. Now that I think about it, he was acting strange last night too. He checked in on me. He made breakfast. He smiled. It was all so strange."

"Isn't that what fathers do?" Andrew asked.

"Not mine," without saying anything else, Selina walked away. Andrew watched as she opened the chicken coop and motioned for him to follow. She picked up the basket sitting by the door. Andrew didn't ask her any more questions, but what she said about her father truly bothered him.

What was wrong with those two? If only he could find out.
