Hearing the shouts behind me I know he's closing in. I can't keep this up. This is not a movie where a miracle will appear and I'll be saved. Right now it's either kill or be killed. Quickly a crazy thought flash through my head and without processing I acted upon it for the chance of survival. I flung my body against the tree trunk and hug as tightly as I could and started climbing. The tree bark tore at my flesh but I didn't stop for a moment until I was high enough to hide between branches of the blooming apple tree. Smelling the fruits my stomach played a rhythm to notify how hungry I've been. I crawl on my belly out on a slim limb to grab a few apples to replenish my energy. While savagely devouring the fruits a gush of rain came down, flooding my clothes and skin which made it harder to grip or relax in the spot.

Load explosions were heard below me and I froze. Afraid to look down, afraid of being caught, this can't be the end. I stiffly swallowed and took a quick look down. It was too dark to see any movement which is both good and bad. The thunder crackling and the lightening flashes drown out the voices of men on the hunt for us to do there bidding or for slaughtering. A quick shiver ran down my spine as I finally lose to fear and the tears flowed heavy blocking my vision. I mumbled a prayer requesting God to touch me in this time to give me strength. The wet clothes clung to my body as the coldness started to sin in and my bones stiffen. I'll make it, I must. I won't let nobody hurt him. They don't have the right to. I have to find him. He's not old enough to survive on his own. Fighting my body I picked a few more apples and placed in my blouse creating a bag and putting the hem in my mouth to prevent the apples from falling. I started to make my way down the tree listening carefully to hear any voices. Landing safely on the ground I headed back to the direction I ran from, they wouldn't turn back would they?. This is dumb you're being risky but for the sake of him I must go back. Reaching the stone cave I crawl on my belly not to startle him for him to scream and attract unwanted attention.

Recognizing someone was coming he position himself to fight back. "Dan it's me", I whispered. He rushed into my arms hearing my voice and I hugged him as best as the apples would let me. I opened my blouses and handed the apples to him. Seeing him feed his face, I realized why I fight so hard. Not for me but for him, for them.
