"There she is!"
"After her!"
You hurried through the many corridors of the castles. Shaking off the intruders was a lot harder than you expected it to be. Their laughter filled the otherwise silent corridors, "It's a game to these barbarians!" the mere thought sickened you.
Armored men littered the hallways, your family's crest etched into their chest plates. You gave a silent prayer for the men who sacrificed their lives to protect you and your family.
As you rounded the corner, you slammed into another body and for the briefest of moments, your blood ran cold, until they spoke.
"(Y/n)! Thank the Gods you are still alive!" Relief washed over you as you recognized the voice of your father. One of his arms wrapped around your smaller body, pulling you in for a tight embrace. You noticed the bloodied blade in his other hand but said nothing of it.
"Father! Why is this happening? Where is mother and--" You looked into his eyes and quickly stopped speaking. The lone tear that slid down the side of his face was enough. Your heart shattered at this revelation. Before long tears flowed from your own (E/c) eyes.
He kneeled down, setting his blade on the ground. He took your hands in his and brushed a strand of hair out of your face. "My beautiful daughter, do not weep. There will be plenty of time to mourn. You must flee and survive. Do not let them catch you. Survive for your kingdom, for your family!" He kissed the back of your hand and took up his sword once more. He walked past you, waiting for them
The laughter of the intruders grew closer.
"Please, come with me, father!" you begged him, tugging at his sleeve. He turned his head to give you a smile.
"Go, and do not look back!" he gently tugged his sleeve free from your desperate grasp. The sight of your father standing tall with his back to you and a bloody sword in his hand was something you will never forget.
The group of men rounded the corner and they all smiled sadistically. "Kill the king!" they chanted as they lunged for the king. Any trying to slip past him to get to you was soon met with a ruthless end.
"GO!" Your father roared as he plunged his sword through another man. You closed your eyes and force yourself to run towards the exit. You glanced behind you and instantly regretted doing so. It happened in slow motion as your father fell to his knees. Both his arms were restrained by the intruders while another held his sword high in the air. Not a single ounce of fear was present in your father's eyes as the blade took his head in one smooth motion.
You choked back a sob as you willed yourself to run faster. Runaway from the awful scene and from the cheers coming from the men. It wasn't long before they were thundering after you.
You ran as fast as you could, but the sounds of footsteps were everywhere. There were just too many intruders. Somehow you managed to make it outside and were running along the castle walls. The gate wasn't too much further, you willed yourself to go faster. Ignoring the ache in your legs and the sting of the cold winter air filling your lungs and nipping at your skin.
Fate, however, was not on your side, Just ahead of you, a large group of men waited for you, blocking your path to freedom. You skidded to a stop, nearly tripping over your dress, and turned to run the way you came only to see the same thing on the other side.
