The Boy Who Never Smiled (2p!Canada x Reader) 2

You woke up early on your second day at Hetalia World Academy. You knew you weren’t going to be able to go back to sleep, so you groggily got up and made your way to the small kitchen you and Flavio now shared as roommates. On your way, you peeked into his room to see if he had come back after you had fallen asleep, only to be greeted by his empty bed. ‘Hm. He must’ve not come back yet…’ You thought as you closed his door. You brewed some of your favorite coffee. It was maple-flavored and you loved it. You wanted to make some pancakes too, but you soon figured out that you didn’t have any of the mix. You were going to have to go get some. You sighed. ‘I’ll get some this afternoon.’ You thought sadly. While your coffee was brewing, you decided to get changed. You stripped off your pajamas and pulled on some dark jeans along with your favorite (f/c) top. Since it was a cool morning, you slipped on your (s/f/c) sweater and stepped outside to savor the feeling of the cool air against your body. You sighed, looking out past the school and into the woods. You decided to take your hot coffee and go for a morning walk through the majestic pines.

~Timeskip of you strolling past the school~

You gasped at the scenery, now up close, a couple of yards away. The pine trees towered above you, lush, healthy, and green. It was breath-taking. You couldn’t resist as you laid your hand against the cool, rough bark. You loved nature. The only good thing about living with your mom was the fact that she lived right next to an almost magical-feeling forest. You used to take walks in there to escape your home life when you weren’t at school. Sometimes you would sleep there and if you were lucky you got to see a couple of animals. Nothing dangerous lived next to the property. The predatory animals were either scared off by the humans, or they were driven out. Either way, you could never get enough of being there. You were glad that there was a forest here too. You looked around you. The courtyard was entirely empty. You grinned and ran through the tall trees, an exhilarating feeling filling your chest. You ran through the towering figures and shrubbery with ease and relief. You loved it. You almost didn’t want to leave. You glanced at your phone and sighed sadly, seeing that it was 15 minutes until you had to get back to the dorm to get your stuff and get to class.

You slipped your phone into your pocket and then turned around, your eyes widening. There was a large, beautiful bull moose in front of you. Well it would be beautiful. If it wasn’t growling and baring its teeth at you. You froze, fear flashing in your wide (e/c) eyes. You didn’t know what to do. You knew not to move, but no one was going to notice you being gone until they didn’t find you in the dorm this afternoon, and even if they did look for you, there was no guarantee that they would be able to find you. You didn’t know if you were going to be able to hold still for that long. A couple of minutes passed and the bull moose was starting to get even angrier. It was willing you to move. ‘Well… I guess this is it…’ You thought as the bull moose began to scrape one of its hind legs against the ground. Suddenly it charged. You squeezed your eyes shut, crossing your arms in front of your body, as if to protect yourself. As if. You waited for the impact to come, but it didn’t. You figured it was a slight delay and waited a little longer. Nothing. And then you heard something.

A person grunted and there were a couple of thuds. Slowly, you let your arms fall to your sides and you slowly opened your eyes. In front of you was Max Williams and he was wrestling the bull moose with his bare hands. And he was winning, too. You watched the fight, which went on for several minutes. The animal sharply kicked Max in the abdomen and you heard a sickening crack, but still, the young man kept fighting. You were just gaping, like an idiot. Soon enough, the creature gave up and ran rather speedily in the opposite direction, leaving its opponent gasping for air and holding an arm to his mid-section. You immediately ran to help him, not even asking. You didn’t want his opinion on whether you should help him or not. You were GOING to help him. You slung his vacant arm around your shoulder, seeing as he was about to slump to the ground. You half dragged him out of the woods and asked a couple of students where the infirmary was, and you headed in that direction. You helped him up onto the observatory table, where he immediately turned his tired, weary, violet eyes to your (e/c) eyes and held your gaze for a moment. You finally had to say something. You looked away.

“…Thanks… For helping me.” You said.

“…Helping? Hah… I saved you...." He said, having a hard time breathing. You got annoyed.

“Yeah, whatever.” You mumbled.

“Since you at least thanked me, I should probably say thank you for helping me here, eh? Although, I didn’t ask.” He said, looking out the window to his right.

“Helping you?! I practically dragged you here! And do you think I care whether you asked or not? Hoser…” You insulted him in Canadian after getting frustrated.

“We’re even then, eh?” He asked. You uncrossed your arms and gave him a confused look.

“What?” You asked. He rolled his eyes.

“I ‘helped’ you with that bull moose and you ‘helped’ me get here. We’re even.” He said. You took on a surprised expression and then blushed slightly. He was staring at you again, and you didn’t know why.

“Yeah… I guess so…” You said. He laid back on the cushioned bench and one of the nurses came in to ask you some questions and to examine him. He dozed off during the questions, where you were having a mental battle about his personality. He seemed pretty sarcastic and laid-back. Lazy. Arrogant. And yet there was something that drew you to him. He had an air of mystery about him, and he did ‘help’ you escape your inevitable fate. The nurse left. You blushed as your hand reached out and brushed some of the blonde hair out of his closed eyes. ‘Stupid hoser… What was he doing out there anyway? I thought I was alone…’ You thought and then leaned down close to his ear.

“Thanks, Max… For saving me…” You whispered. You got up, and left to go to your homeroom class.
