Finally, the warm sand at her feet, the sounds of the ocean and seagulls. Perfect. She stood, inwardly thanking her mom once again for bringing her, Bracken, and Seth here. Seth had invited Newel and Doren but unsurprisingly they preferred tv to sand and sea.
"We always sink in the sand." was Doren's explanation. Newel, well, he said nothing and stared at the screen unmoving.
"Is Newel ok?" Seth asked, looking uncertain. Doren glanced over at Newel. A pause.
"I'm sure he's fine. If he had died he would have made some sort of sound. ... I think."
"Welllll, in that case, ... , have a nice day. Um, goodbye, uuuhhh *glances at Newel* have a nice day?" Seth walked away, laughing at his weird friends as he planned for the beach. Kendra, as usual, had over-planned, with Seth complaining all the way. Sunscreen, beach towel, umbrella, fan, sandwiches, drinks, chips, beach toys, beach ball, shark repellent, magical sword, and assorted fairies. (DISCLAIMER; THE FAIRIES ASKED TO GO) The list would have gone on but she was cut off as Seth annoyingly hustled everybody into the car, as he quipped, "THE BEACH WAITS FOR NO MAN!" while waving his finger in the air.
Now that she was there, though, she decided she agreed with Seth, although she would never be as dramatic as that. The beach was perfect, she thought. Clear skies, blue sea, and of course, Bracken had come too. He didn't live with them, obviously, so he drove his old truck over. Kendra smiled as Bracken came and lay down next to her. Now it's perfect, she thought lovingly.
Meanwhile, Seth was enjoying himself as well, diving into waves gleefully. He didn't know how to surf, but he loved the feeling of being smashed by the biggest waves. He ran back and forth along the beach, swam around catching crabs, shrimp, and fish, and just generally had the best day ever.
Kendra looked at him, amazed at how much energy her little brother had. She mentioned it to Bracken, who laughed in return. Bracken at one point got up to play catch with Seth, and Kendra shouted at them intermittently not to hit her in the face again, as the day wore away, Kendra and the fairies started building the ULTIMATE SAND CASTLE. The castle was a 20 bed 21 bath suite with interior decoration, bulletproof windows, hurricane resistant roof, a crab as a personal servant, complete with throne room, billiards, parlor, and a grand entry hall. This was surrounded by thick walls with guard towers at strategic intervals, which were kept watch by the ever-vigilant beach hoppers. (NOTE: THE FAIRIES CHARMED THE ANIMALS INTO BEING THERE). In any case, it was a palace fit for a king.
Kendra could not get over how cute that little crab looked waiting on the fairies. The fairies loved pretending they were queens, obviously, and Kendra loved watching them move around in the little castle, laying down their gucchi TM handbags on the seaweed velvet chairs. They were so inventive and creative with the sand, seaweed, and driftwood it was insane. One particularly industrial fairy had set up a ocean salt farm, and was ready to start a small business, but sadly, the day was done.
Everybody toweled off, and tiredly moved to the car, with the fairies lagging behind on sore wings. Seth dragged his feet, his unlimited energy finally gone. Seth looked like a zombie in the back (Kendra would know) until out of his mouth came an unearthly shout ...
