Chapter 7

I wake up with Daveed and Lin watching TV on the couch. Daveed doesn't have a shirt on, I'm assuming he just woke up. I grab my phone from my pocket but it's dead so I just put it back in my pocket. I look at the clock above the door and it's 9:30am. Later then Daveed and I usually get up. Daveed saw that I was awake and motioned me to go into the bedroom. He didn't follow me in so I was kinda confused. I walk in the room and see Anthony sitting in the bed. He notices I'm in then  says, "Vaire I'm so sorry about last night I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable I just- I know you and Daveed are a thing and me and Jazzy are a thing so I'm just saying I didn't like mean it like that and I'm sorry." I walk up to him and give him a hug. "Thank you I was just confused yk." I feel him. He nods and I walk out the room and sit next to Daveed. He kisses the top of my head and says, "This is later then we wake up most of the time." I agree and Lin says, "I'm always up at at least 6 every morning. Vanessa makes me wake up." I knew Vanessa was his wife, she was really nice. "Tomorrow is Vaire's birthday." Lin tells Daveed. "Oh I already knew. "He responds. I smile at him and Lin says, "You guys get along nicely." Then grabs Anthony, they say their goodbyes and leave. "I'm tired." Daveed whines. "Sounds like a personal problem." I tell him. He chuckles then gets up and gets some ice cream out the freezer. He comes and sits next to me and starts to eat it. He puts the spoon to my mouth and I take a bite. After we share the ice cream Daveed checks the time and asks, "Do you want to go to lunch?" "We literally just ate ice cream." I tell him. He sits back down and turns on the TV. On the news it shows extreme weathers for next week. I decide I want to get ready for the day so I go take a shower and put on some comfy clothes. I come out and see Daveed taking his braids out. I walk over and sit next to him and help. Once we finish it's 5:12. "You hungry?" He asks me. I nod and he says, "We can meet up with the rest of the cast and go out to dinner in long island city but we would have to take the d train if that's ok with you." "I'm cool with that." I say. He goes and gets dressed and we make our way out the door. 

We approach the train and Daveed stays close to me. We sit down and some old guy puts his hand on my thigh. I starts to make his way up when Daveed sees and say, "Hey man back the fuck off." "Nah man I've never had any of that black girl pussy before tryna get some tonight know what I mean." The guy says. That was Daveed's last straw. He gets up and punches the guy in the face. The guy tries to fight back and now they are in some huge brawl. People were recording and the cops were called. At the stop no one could get out until Daveed was in handcuffs and out of the way. I tried to tell the cops that he was just defending me but they wouldn't listen.  As always. I got to the police station where they were holding Daveed. He was already in a cell. I kissed him through the opening and asked, "What happened, what did you tell them, wha-" I got cut off when he said, "I'm getting transferred to Metropolitan Correctional Center in the morning, and my trail is next week." "Next week what about Hamilton?!" I sorta yell a bit. "I don't know baby." He tells me. " Time is up lady." A guard tells me. I give him one last kiss and I walk out. I text Lin and tell him what's going on. He contacts Daveed's understudy and then comes and picks me up. Lin has a benz and on the way back to Daveed and I's apartment he says, "Daveed won't be in there for long, two weeks tops." "How do you know?" I ask him. "I was in jail for the same thing when I was 18." He tells me. "Well it will be different for him Lin. He is a black man in America who beat up some white guy. They are going to make it as bad as it can sound." I explain to him. The rest of the car ride was silent. 

For the first year ever, I don't celebrate my birthday.

Right before the five minute call, Daveed calls me. "Hey baby, you ready for the show?" He asks me. I tell him that I'm very exited and the whole cast gets a chance to talk to him. The phone makes its way back to me and he says, "I'm so proud of you Vaire, for calling me everyday and visiting me, I love you so much." Before I can respond the line ends. My eyes are tearing up but I just got my makeup on so I try to pull it together. 'Guns and ships' was the hardest for me. I start to remember Daveed rapping to me to memorize it and next thing I know I am balling crying. The envelope gets passed to me and I almost forget I'm on stage. 

The rest of the show went ok. I was still very emotional where Daveed's parts would be but I tried my best to keep it professional. Right after the final bow I ran to the couch and started balling crying. Oak ran up to me and comforted me. I laid with him on the couch for awhile and then fell asleep in his arms.
