Chapter Three

Math was so boring and I swear, I almost fell asleep.
Thank God I have English next. I walk through the hallway and enter my classroom.
I take my usual seat at the front and wait for the other students to appear.
Xavier walks through the door and grins at me but I have no energy to smile back.
He sits one seat down from me and I want to tell him to move away but I decide not to.

Mr Thompson explains the essay that we will have to write for him.

"It will be regarding the difference between a movie and the book that it is based upon. For example, the award winning Twilight series was based on a book. If one of you were to choose that movie, you would write an essay about the contrast of the movie and the book. What is different between the two.."

After he is done explaining, the bell rings and I gather my books and walk outside.

"Sorry for ringing you this morning."
Xavier says after catching up with me.

"It's fine." I coldly reply.

"You look pretty today." He says and my heart flutters.

"Thank you?" I laugh, actually laugh.

Although he is incredibly annoying, I will admit that I find him charming.

"Hey, I wanted to know if you were free on Friday?" He seems somewhat nervous and I can't help but laugh again.

"Uhm, well I'm always free but I don't really like going out with strangers." I try to answer politely.

"Kate's busy on Friday since she's going out with Ty. Which means you'd probably be really bored while everyone else is most likely enjoying themselves. " He tries to convince me.

"I'll message you if I can." I smile once again before gaining pace and walking away to find Kate.

When I find her, she is with Tyrese as usual.

"Seems like Xavier over there is a bit obsessed." She says while nudging my side.

"Nah. I think he's just trying to find a friend."

"Friends with you? Yeah right. You're the meanest looking person I've ever known." Tyrese laughs.

He's right though, I am not the type of person people usually choose to befriend.

"Eh, idunno. He's alright I guess. What are you two doing for Tyrese's birthday on Friday?" I ask, trying to change the subject.

"We're going to the cinemas after school, not much." Kate responds and intwines her fingers with Tyrese's.

I look away from the sweet gesture and force the thought of Kayden out of my mind.

I spot another couple kissing near the basketball courts and I try not to puke on the spot.
Geez, don't people have any self respect these days?

I've never liked the idea of PDA. I couldn't even be around a group of people without being embarrassed let alone be seen kissing another person.

Janice once told me maybe that was the reason Kayden left me.
When she first told me, I never let myself believe it but now, I think she may be right.

I had met Kayden through Tyrese.
They used to play in the same soccer team.
Kate had once taken me to 'third-wheel' at one of Tyrese's games and then he introduced me to Kayden.
Kayden was tall, he had dreamy, blue eyes and tanned skin.
He was mean at first but he became sweet the more we got to know each other. He was athletic and was really smart.

"Earth to Justine!" Kate calls out.

"Uh, sorry, haha." I let out a small laugh.

"Are you free on Sunday? I was hoping you'd come with me to check out that new cafe in Newtown."

"Yeah, I'm up for it!" I smile.

Even though Kate is consumed by her boyfriend I'm happy that she actually asked me to go out with her.

At least Kate hasn't left me and is still here.
