"That's all for now. Have a nice day."

My teacher hadn't even finished the sentence before we all were outside the classroom, already half way to our lockers. I sighed. That had been one of the most boring math lessons in ages. I hated math, I didn't even want to read it, but I had to. Otherwise I wouldn't get a "proper job", as my mother kindly reminded me every now and then. She wanted me to become a teacher in college or something even worse, a doctor, because that is what she'd always wanted to be but never became. She used to say that I'm living her dream, and that I should take all the opportunities I can get if it gets me closer to her goal.

What she doesn't know is that I don't want become a doctor, neither a teacher. My deepest dream is to become an actress. I want to act in all the big movies, live in Hollywood and attend every gala performance around the world. I want to be the next big actress that kids admire, girls want to be and guys want to be with. I want nothing else and am willing to fight for my dream.

I haven't told my mother about this, nobody knows about it to be honest. Well, it's mostly because I live outside a small town called Galesburg and as long as I live here I'm not going to be able to participate in any movie at all. Everyone knows everything about everyone and rumours spread faster than it takes for the girls in my year to find their shoe size in their favourite store. And the girls in my year are like the mean girls in Mean Girls, superficial, false and covered in makeup. They only care about boys, their appearance and fashion so believe me, it doesn't take that long for them to find their shoe size in their favourite store.

Also it's because I don't want to break my mother's dreams. I'm doing good in school and it would be a waste if it threw it all away on some stupid movie. At least that's what I'm trying to convince myself.

Something loud cut off my thoughts and threw me back to reality.
"Hurry up" someone behind me shouted. "You're blocking the entire corridor!"

"Sorry", I murmured and step aside. A guy version of a Mean Girls-girl ran past me followed by a couple of guys from my math class. They ran across the corridor to a bunch of people surrounding something taped on the wall that obviously was very interesting. Normally I would have ignored them and kept going, but this day I heard something that got my attention.

"They're searching for roles to a movie that's going to take place not far from this town", a girl with long blond hair said to her friend that looked like the definition of plastic fantastic and they both giggled, clearly very excited. I stopped not far from the crowd of people that now blocked the corridor and pretended to look for something in my bag as I tried to listen for information.

"Dear students at Carl Sandburg College", a tall tattooed guy I knew was called Steve read from a paper that was tacked on the wall that everyone surrounded. "We are looking for extras to a movie that will be recorded this summer. We are looking for girls and boys at the age of 17 to 25 years old. If interested, call the number at the bottom of the page. Auditions will take place next week".
