Karenumati went to her chamber with fast steps. After reaching at chamber, she sat on bed with a slow thud to sob. Her mouth was covered with her hand, to support her sobs not to come out, not to let anyone know about her broken state.
After a short time of sobbing, a scene flashed in front of her eyes making her stop. She was stopped from sobbing more, and from have hiccups which were on the verge of coming out while reminiscing about the most affectionate person of her life after Parijat.
The person was none other than Prithak who had become dearer than a blood brother to Karenumati.
Flashback:
"Renuuu!" Prithak increased the pace of his voice while walking, briskly.
"What happened, Bhrata?" Renu went near to him with curious eyes, as an obvious response towards his cheerfulness.
"I have something for you." the same cheerful voice answered.
"What's that?" She roamed her eyes around him, to figure out the glint of the something which he mentioned.
"Here it is!" Saying so, he handed her a bunch of water lilly.
"Wow! These are so pretty," She exclaimed over the beauty of water lilies with focused eyes.
"I know that you love water lilies." he was observing her happiness, all happily.
"Do you know the story behind my love for water lilies, Bhrata?" He nodded in negative.
Then, she started to narrate the story, her childhood interest for water lilies, and along with that many more incidents of her childhood. When she halted to check him she saw that he was listening to her with the same happy smile which was on his face from the beginning.
"Bhrata, aren't you bored with my chatting?" She reciprocated his smile with a pleasant surprise.
"Younger siblings have the right over elder siblings' time till the end of their tolerance. Do you think my tolerance is that much weak, Renu?" His humorous side was adding more to his charm.
"What if any day I will stop talking to you?" Her question made him serious.
"I know you won't do it from your side ever, and I too won't give you any such reason to do that." after his this confirmation, both exchanged wide smiles.
Flashback Ended
"You couldn't keep your words. Why did you do that? Because of you, I had lost my mother again. Only because of you, my mother figure, my Subhi jiji isn't here with me. I won't forgive you, Prince Prithak." determination rang in her voice while wiping the fresh teardrops from her cheeks.
She headed towards balcony to have some alone time, but was interrupted by a message. The message reasoned her restlessness when she heard that Prithak got injured during his venture in hilly area.
She left towards his chamber, immediately. Her determination of not forgiving him was controlling the desperation of her steps.
She reached there, and stood at a place where she could look at him from far.
Nakul was treating Prithak's wound. No one asked nothing to him, because they knew after Parijat's departure he didn't speak much as if he had dismissed each kind of sound from his surroundings including his own voice.
Renu was in dilemma thinking whether her refusal for praying for Prithak had resulted into his injury. Her conscience was scolding her for considering personal issue over family welfare.
She hadn't looked at Prithak. That wasn't her hatred but the guilt of being a possible reason of his hurt.
"Bhrata, though wounds aren't much deep yet have rest of two days," hearing Nakul's advice, Karenumati got alerted as they might need to leave soon.
She pushed back her hesitation, and looked at Prithak. She found no trace of pain in his eyes which she noticed whenever she had shared a glance with him, accidentally. She kept looking at him in surprise while he just smiled in return.
"We should leave now," Nakul called Renu as she stood like a statue.
Pulling herself together, she followed Nakul. Before leaving completely, she took a last look at Prithak only to see him smiling, this time with an assurance towards her.
