Nine: Gedeon
"If you have word about the whereabouts of Robert, you let me know."
I watched Lizabeta roll her eyes at my demands as she flicked off my comment. After a grueling two hours after I got word she captured one of Robert's men, it took everything in me to leave Dove. Since she had returned, I never did leave her out of my sight in case of anything. Though I trusted Anastasia and everyone to keep her safe and well, she was antsy of everyone that wasn't me.
It's slow and steady progress. She didn't flinch when it came to me anymore. Just thinking about Dove made me anxious to head back. I'm sure she's already awake. I told Anastasia to keep her distracted until I got back by taking a walk to the greenhouse or even spending time in the library. I've coaxed her into playing chess, but she refused outright.
"Yeah, I got it after the fifth time you reminded me," she informed me with a scowl. I didn't blame her for being in such a bad mood. She had been working tirelessly to find that son of a bitch. Though Lizabeta gave the impression she could care less about Dove, I knew she respected her as my Queen. She's the only one who knew people and sneaked into high-end clubs too. "I still can't believe it took manipulating his limp dick to spill what we needed. You'd think that he'll be thanking me."
"Your method of getting others to speak is rather interesting," I snickered. Her method alone is why I believe most men would naturally fear her as she shrugged. She's still covered in blood, almost proud as it stained most of her dark clothing. Yet, she's germophobic when it comes to other things like animals and dust.
"Well, that was the only way he spilled. So I guess my next destination is getting a way into Ricker's club," she informed me, tossing her spiral knife up in the air and then catching it with ease.
"I heard he runs a prostitution ring," I pointed out. "Be careful."
"Is that concern I hear for once?" Lizabeta pointed out, the edge of her lips pulling upwards as she tilted her head to the side. But, of course, I already knew what she was about to say as she chuckled in amusement. "Man, you really are growing a pussy since she came into your life, huh?"
"Fuck off," I threw before taking my phone out. Anastasia had texted me that Dove was finally up, which was progress. She often didn't like to leave my side, at least that's what I understand. However, she chose to stay inside no matter how much I tried to hoax if she'd like to visit the greenhouse or take a stroll.
My wife had become scared of the outside world. At times, she didn't even want to leave, completely curled up on the bed while facing the window that I've always kept open for her. She would stare out in a daze whenever I was there, and often, I was terrified she would jump and leave me in this cruel world.
She couldn't.
Dove was the equivalent of my heart.
Her wings were cruelly clipped so that she refused even to see more than what she had become used to in those months. I vowed that when I had Robert, I would give him the most brutal death imaginable.
Getting into the car, I pinched the bridge of my nose as Timor turned his attention to me as he pulled into the highway. He's been just on edge as I was in hopes of hunting that fucker down, but he always seemed to be one step ahead of me. He was purposely leading us on a wild goose chase for his amusement.
"Nothing?"
"Nothing," I affirmed, balling my hands into a fist. The urge to destroy everything rang loud and clear, beating at the back of my head. Biting my tongue until the metallic taste of my blood filled my mouth, I glanced down at my watch. "Fuck, I didn't expect for me to take this long at Ophelia's."
