Beneath the Shimmering Waves Chapter 1
[Earth: Anchorage, Alaska]
It was a fine sunny day out on the cold frigid waters of the Northwest Pacific Coast near Anchorage. A small whale cruise was cruising along, thirty tourists on board were hoping to see some whales. Among the group was a family of four, a father and mother, and their fraternal twins. The children laughed in excitement at seeing these majestic giants. Their names were Michael and Grace. Michael had short brown hair with blue eyes while Grace had long blonde hair with blue eyes. Both of them were 12 years old. They sat in the back of the boat, wrapped up warmly in blankets, sipping on some hot chocolate.
"When will we see the whales Dad?" Michael asked his father Mark, who chuckled with his wife Elizabeth at their son's enthusiasm. "Not for another two hours, son. These creatures are migratory, and we need to be patient." He told his son, causing both twins to say. "Aww!" They pouted, both children soon were drawn by the glowing lights of the Aurora Borealis in the skies above the frigid waters.
Within a few minutes, the boat slowed, its passengers perusing the ocean's surface, searching for whales. Little did they know that something magical was about to happen. While the passengers searched for the whales, the Northern lights began pulsating and glowing brighter and brighter and the second. "What's going on?" The captain of the whale cruiser asked in bewilderment as both he and his assistant noticed the sudden change.
He was an old grizzled man named Aalto while his assistant was a young bright-eyed blonde woman who went by the name Emily. Both jumped up from their seats to get a better view of what was happening. "I don't know Captain, I've never seen anything like this before." She said as the celestial light show above intensified even more. The captain's eyes widened in awe.
Captain Aalto and his passengers looked out to the distance, where shimmering strands of purple, blue, and green light danced and twisted on the surface of the water. Suddenly, the ocean water around the boat started to bubble, then boil, as a strange whirring, churning began to take place. The entire ocean turned a dark green then began to rock the vessel. "What the devil..." The Captain shouted as he grabbed the wheel again.
The boat began to be rocked violently as the water churned around it, frothing and foaming madly. Everyone started to panic as both the waves and Northern Lights intensified. Suddenly, the boat hit something big, Emily looked over the side and saw chunks of ice. "We've hit an iceberg..." She shouted. "But how? There weren't any earlier." Captain Aalto shouted back as he and the other passengers continued to look out towards the dancing lights.
The captain grabbed a flare gun that was on the boat's deck, aimed it at the swirling water around the boat, and pulled the trigger. watched in fear and wonder as the churning water grew closer and closer, towering over the boat while the purple, blue, and green lights surrounding it.
Suddenly, the Aurora Borealis flashed a bright light that nearly blinded everyone, and knocked everyone to the floor. Michael and Grace hugged their parents in trembling with fear as the lights enveloped the entire boat. Everyone on board blacked out as they and the boat mysteriously vanished.
[Location unknown]
As the people on board began to wake up, they noticed that the churning water surrounding the ship was gone. The waves became calm, as they began to rock once more. Captain Aalto got up and held his aching head. "Ohh! What happened?" He said as Emily began to awaken. "Where are we? What is this place?" As a crack of dawn appeared at the horizon, the entire ship slowly came into view. It had run aground on a snowy beach. Giant pine trees stood before them and tall mountains in the background. The Captain and his assistant heard the other passengers awakening and turned around and gasped. Behind their boat was a sea of ice.
