Even in her job outside of high school, Lisa couldn't escape the relentless torment of her peers who considered her an outsider. She got harassed at work by her coworkers and was often left isolated from them all.
One day, Lisa got home late from work. Jennie was home before her, laying on the couch on her phone. She heard the door open and shut, and saw a defeated looking Lisa in the doorway.
"Lisa! You're late! I was starting to get worried about you? How was work? You don't look so..."
"It's fine, it's fine.." Lisa mumbled.
Jennie rolled her eyes as she sauntered over to Lisa in front of the shut door. "You know you can't fool me that easily, soldier." She wrapped her arms around Lisa's neck and looked up in her eyes."I'm just... I'm tired.."
"Come on, sit down with mommy." In their house, 'mommy' wasn't just a sexual term, but rather an affectionate name. Lisa never remembered receiving care from her actual mommy, so Jennie felt like the perfect substitute.
Jennie grabbed Lisa's wrist and led her to the couch. Jennie fell down onto the cushions still gripping onto Lisa, so she pulled her down with her. Lisa flopped on top of Jennie and just melted into her.
"Lisa, please. I know you. You're obviously not okay."
Silence.
"I'm also just psychic."
Lisa giggled quietly. Jennie had done the impossible and somehow managed to make Lisa laugh on a regular basis.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?" Jennie said breathily, stroking Lisa's hair with one hand and holding her back with the other.
Lisa sniffed. "They're so mean to me for no reason."Jennie frowned. "Who's mean to you, sweetheart?"
A sigh, followed by, "Everyone else at work. The girls, especially. They all treat me like shit for no reason. I'm left out of the groups and-" Lisa's voice breaks from a choking up sound, before Jennie feels a warm drop on her arm.
"Oh, my sweetheart.." Jennie moaned, kissing Lisa's hair and continuing to stroke her. She loved seeing Lisa express any sort of feelings at all, especially seeing her vulnerable.
"I just- it feels like shit, mama." Her voice trembled "Why are they so mean to me, mama?" She said, looking up at Jennie's caring face.
Lisa's military experience had trained her to remain calm no matter the situation, and this included being tormented at work. She'd put up a stone-cold facade whenever she was in public, but it all broke down when she was with Jennie.
"I don't know sweetheart, you don't deserve it. Nobody has the right to treat my perfect angel that way." Lisa squeezed her tighter and her breaths became sharper.
"Maybe they behave that way because they don't have mommies like me to take care of them." Jennie said. "You're a very lucky girl for having a caring mommy. They don't have a relationship like we do." Jennie kissed Lisa's head again.
"I guess you're right mama. You think they're just jealous?"
Jennie chuckled. "Of course they are, sweetheart. But you're away from them now. Don't worry about them. Now it's just you and me. You're safe here with mommy."
