A change in perspective seems to have been postponed for far too long. And what better time than when a friendship is blossoming?

(Y/n)'s POV

I tended to the chili in the pot while Snufkin added a twig to the fire. I was excited that he had gotten me the list of things I needed. And the look of shock on his face from seeing how much money I had was still funny, hours later. A giggle bubbled in the back of my throat and I smiled happily. If there was anything my teachers taught me, it was how to cook. However, that was a very hushed lesson. I lifted the ladle to my lips and hummed at the exploding flavors. "It's finished!" I cheered. Catching his brown eyes as I looked his direction, I blushed at how big and lively they always looked, despite how laxed he acted.

"Oh, I'm sure it's nothing like Mama's food though." He leaned back on a rock, a smug grin on his lips as I dished out a portion.

"Could you tell me about your family?" I asked as I held the bowl out.

"Mama isn't my mother, silly princess. It's her name, Moominmama. She's one of my very good friends." He explained. I sat quietly, making my own bowl.

"Well, Snufkin, a very wise person once said that our closest friends are our chosen family." Giving him my best teasing grin, I started eating. Leaning back, I closed my eyes as I ate slowly. I had felt I could trust him, but the small voice in my head told me that that wasn't the wisest choice, I still didn't know him. He could have told the town who was with him.

"It is very good, you are right." Opening my eyes, I sat up straight and looked at the brunette.

"Ohh.. uh, yeah! Thank you." He gave me a smile.

"Is there any left?" I nodded in response and motioned at it for him.

"Have as much as you want. I probably won't have more than this. The fish you made when we first stopped this afternoon was very filling." My gaze drifted up to the cotton candy sky, watching the moon drift about, even before it's time to come up. I was certain this week would go by fast. For the lack of interaction, it was very lively having someone around. The, however many weeks it had been since I left, seemed long and drawn out. I knew it hadn't been a month, but it felt like it. However, the two days since meeting Snufkin had been a breeze, a literal breath of fresh air. I chalked it up to loneliness, and was sure he saved me from going mad all alone.

The bowl had been empty for quite some time, but I was busy thinking, staring at the dark tones in the sky. The moon's light that had bathed me was covered and I blinked as the bowl was gently pulled from my grasp. "Princess, maybe you should go to bed." I gave him a cross look.

"Why do you insist to call me princess sometimes? You did it earlier too. It's just (Y/n)."

"Oh, yes indeed, I'm sorry (Y/n)." He chuckled, setting the bowl aside with his. My eyes followed him as he sat beside me. "Well, I guess it's cause I never met a princess. I've met a witch, her granddaughter, the Groke, Hattifatteners, even The Hobgoblin, and other creatures heard of only in tales. But a real princess, it still seems fake." His answer sounded amused and more like a joke.

"Okay, but what if someone hears you? I'm still on the run, you know." I answered matter of factly. He answered with a loud, boisterous laugh, and he lifted his hand in a grand gesture.

"Look around, silly princess! We're all alone here." At his words my eyes widened and I jumped up, barely able to hold in my loud 'OOKKAAAYYYYY!!'

"You are absolutely correct, sir Snufkin. I am quite tired, I'll be off then." I said hurriedly, running the small distance to my tent. I didn't pitch myself right by him for his privacy and his eager statements about being alone. But for the moment, that helped me tremendously. What was he thinking?!

"Goodnight, (Y/n)." He called after me as I disappeared into the flap on my tent. Just saying that to anyone could be seen as improper! My face heated more with each passing thought and I looked around my tent in hopes of finding something to calm me down. And before I could go into a panic from the unknown feelings of embarrassment, a harmonica started playing. With each note, I found myself breathing and my thoughts slowing. Sticking my head out of my tent, I looked over at him. His hat laid by him, and the fire we had at one point had died. But he looked remarkable, just like he had when I painted him. Rolling onto my back, I sighed and stared at the sky for a moment before sitting up and rummaging through my small amount of things and gathering my art supplies. Stepping out, I was relieved to see his hat placed low on his resting head, harmonica still being played in a slow, soothing melody. He was playing to tire himself, no doubt. Stepping to the other side of my tent, I set up my easel and supplies. The moon was plenty bright enough to tell me just what colors I had, however, my struggle was coming up with the perfect angle to use. After I settled on it, I started painting.

The finer details of the stars were much harder than I anticipated, and finishing the painting was much harder than I expected it to be. Who knew such beautiful things could be so challenging. I thought to myself, rubbing a mosquito from my cheek. Snufkin had stopped playing a bit ago, and it was much of a relief to know he hadn't noticed me out of my tent while he had been up. The crunching of earth behind me was subtle and I took a deep breath, telling myself it was either an animal, or maybe Snufkin, coming to see what I was still doing up. And in a matter of seconds the moon that lit my painting was gone, a shadow casted over me.

"Oh, you're a pretty thing, aren't you?" My heart stopped and I froze, unsure if I should turn around and risk my identity, or to just run off.

"You can take all my belongings. They're in a tent… right by us.." I whispered, pointing to the tent.

"How lovely of you to offer that, however, I'm more interested in you." A hand ran through my hair, and I tensed, slowly moving my leg to side step. Getting ready to run the moment I wasn't between the canvas and the male was quickly interrupted by another figure stepping in front of me.

"You misunderstand my partner. See we would have our way with you, but you're more valuable in the reward we'd be given, princess." Slowly looking up at the other guys' tall and burly build, my eyes widened and before I could shriek in fear a hand was over my mouth. Snufkin! Oh Snufkin, why did you have to go to bed? My eyes watered, and I let out a muffled cry of his name.

Oh dear, oh my! What will happen to our dear friend? Is our journey going to end so soon?

I'm sorry, I'm trying, I promise. Lmaowvejveje I need to get back into writing.
