Ara and Jongho were born on October twelfth of the year 2000, to their parents Choi Kyoun and Choi Jia. At this time, they already had seven children, six were adopted. This was all due to Jia's health problems. For many years, she wanted children, but wasn’t able to so they ended up adopting. With adopting two baby boys in 1998, four baby boys in 1999 and this year was also the same year that they were able to have their first child. They named him San. Even though most of their children were adopted, they love them all the same.

Yes, San was their first born, Park Seonghwa was their first son. He was Kyoun’s favorite son until he bagan dating a commoner. This didn’t stop Kyoun from wanting Seonghwa to take over the company. Seonghwa refused the role and married his girlfriend three years after Ara’s disappearance. When finding out that his baby sister was gone and nowhere to be found, he was devastated. Luckily, he had Harin to put him back on his feet.

Kim Hongjoong, the second son, was the total opposite of his older brother. He obeyed his father, never dated, never even looked at anyone in that way, studied and took over the company as the vice president. Even though Hongjoong did all this to appease his father, his father was still blind and didn’t see who was right in front of him. He had always neglected Hongjoong since he always favored Seonghwa and Ara. All he wanted was a “Good job son” from his father. Sadly, he never got that. When Ara disappeared he cried for many nights and hired many detectives. He was always invested in keeping the company in shape and finding his sister.

Jeong Yunho was always a bright person in the family until the second of february. Yunho always showed his siblings that he loved them and gave them his full undivided attention. Although he loved all his siblings, his favorite siblings had to be Mingi and the twins. He found out about Ara’s kidnapping when he was traveling with his younger brother Yeosang. This caused him to fall into a depression that he hid very well.

Kang Yeosang is known to be the brother that didn’t really express how he felt. He knew all the secrets in the house. All except for the one about the reason for his sister’s kidnapping. If he were to know, then he wouldn’t have ever kept it a secret. If he knew, that household would have crumbled and everyone would believe him. Yeosang knew about his brother’s, San,  cheating girlfriend. He knew about the creepy teacher who taught Jongho and Ara in their freshman year of high school. The scariest part is that he had a feeling something bad was going to happen the day Ara was kidnapped. He regrets going on the plane that day. He regrets not going to the bookstore with her that day. He blames himself for her disappearance.

Choi San, the first born of Jia, her miracle baby. He was the family's sunshine. He got along with everyone and on the outside he was perfect to them all. The whole family had grand expectations for San and Ara since he was the first born son and she was the first born daughter. Ara and San had a little bit of everyone in them. Seonghwa’s desire to live as a commoner. Hongjoong’s desire to be praised by their father. Yunho’s ability to hide their emotions. Yeosang’s toughness. Mingi’s radiant energy. Wooyoung’s optimism. Jongho’s seriousness. Their mother’s smile and their fathers piercing eyes. You could say that he was angry when he found out she was missing, but at some point he was jealous that she got to escape the weight of the family on his shoulders.

Song Mingi was a bright boy. He was always smiling and he had positive energy. This all changed the day Ara didn’t return home. Just like Yeosang, he blamed himself for not going with her when she asked him to. Mingi has always been good at showing people what they wanted to see. They never really saw him. Only Ara did. When she was gone, he felt as if he had no one. He felt lost and helpless, but he never showed it.

Jung Wooyoung was mischievous. He was always in some type of trouble. Wooyoung was also very optimistic. He made everyone laugh and brighten up Ara’s day. He loved his little sister. She was practically his best friend. They were very different from each other, but connected very well. Since everyone knew that the Choi’s had twins, they had thought that the twins were Wooyoung and Ara since they got so along. He hated that he denied her request to go to the bookstore. She had told her how uneasy and unsafe she felt all day, but he didn’t listen.

Then there is Ara’s twin brother, Choi Jongho. He was very distant with her. No one believed that he was her twin. “She’s too perfect” they would say. Jongho hated her. He hated her smile, her laugh, her perfectness, her room, her bright personality. He hated the fact that his father loved her. Jongho always felt left out on their birthdays even when Ara tried so hard to make him feel included. He never acknowledged her as his sister. Was always avoiding her or rude towards her. Jongho, like his brothers and sister, wanted his father’s praise and approval. He wanted to be the favorite too. He envied Ara to the point where he cut off all contact with her. They saw each other once in a while at home and school, but he never made eye contact with her. For years, he had thought that he hated her. He thought that he despised her, but in reality he loved his sister. She was his twin sister after all. He just realized it too late.

___

It was the second of february when she disappeared. Ara had just come from school and like everyday, it was perfect. When she got home she met up with her two other siblings who had ditched school. She knew what they did, but it didn’t really matter to her unless they were doing something unsafe and turned off their location.

“Ditch with us one day. You’ll see how much fun we’ll have.” Wooyoung told her, but she shook her head. “I’m actually trying to get a part of the company later on in life.” she replied.

“These are the years of your life where you should be having fun, not staying and studying.” San told her and she just ignored him. There were times where she wanted to go with her brothers and have fun, but she was too afraid of disappointing her father. Ever since she could remember, he had spoken to her about the company, about how one day she could run her own company. Everytime he spoke to her about it, he would light up. She wanted him to be proud of her. She wanted her father’s approval. She craved it.

Their father wasn’t around much and didn’t really show his love to the kids. Only their mom, Seonghwa, San and Ara have felt a bit of his love. The others have always been ‘disappointments’ to him. To Kyoun his wife and company were his love. Ara and San were his perfect daughter and son. His other sons just disappointed him, even Seonghwa.

When Ara got to her room’s door, she met with her brother Jongho.

“Hey! I haven’t seen you in so long.” She said with a smile. A smile that he ‘hated’.

“There’s obviously a reason.” he told her coldly and left.
