**

The hard knock raised her head.

"Hunter."

Sera quickly rubbed her eyes with her hands and stood. "Yes. I'm all set."

The door opened and the CO that filled it gestured for her to follow him.

Now she was beginning to see more people. He led her to an area where her face card was checked. They had to go through an ID procedure to make sure the right person was being released.

It was a short process and they cleared her.

She was Sera Hunter, but she had no idea who that was supposed to be now.

When they were done she followed the CO out of two sets of doors.

A couple of key turns. That's what it took. A couple of key turns and a few buttons pressed and the largest door opened revealing a wire fence lined outside.

"Alright Hunter, guess that's it."

Still not looking at him, she nodded.

Three steps got her over the threshold and out into the air.

The door shut loudly behind her. And on a shaky breath she clasped the bag.

There was a bench outside the gate right off the main road.

The jail was in the middle of nowhere Nevada. And those two paths stretched into forever in either direction.

She'd made plans in her head. But maybe they'd been too dreamy. It seemed to be unraveling a bit with all this being real. And she didn't count on feeling this way

Sera kept taking in deep breaths of air, like someone was going to take it away. The rubber soles of her shoes ran over the gravel as she sat there, no longer crying but without a single idea of what her day to day life would be like in the future. There would be no one telling her when to sleep or eat. And she could be outside as long as she wanted without a time limit.

No more looking over her shoulder.

No fear about falling asleep-

A buzz formed in the air but not the one she was used to. This was an engine. Sera looked down the road to see a speck on the horizon. Blue? She squinted against the haze.

It seemed like it was coming fast.

It was a car, a truck to be exact. As the speck grew she saw two arms flailing wildly out of the side of the passenger window.

Sera's mouth twisted.

"Wooooooooo!" The yell rose over the base of the music playing.

Sera could only shake her head and cover her mouth as the car rolled to a stop near her. It was a gorgeous blue Escalade.

The yelling didn't stop as the door flew open.

Sera stood up. "Vicky."

"Bitch!" With a wide brimmed hat that covered more than the shorts she was wearing, Vicky's heels tapped the gravel as she rushed toward her. "Sera!" She squeezed her so tight. And Sera welcomed it. It made her know this was really real.

Vicky pulled back clutching Sera's shoulders. "Oh my God baby they got you dressed like a guidance counselor!"

The driver turned the stereo down.

Sera's mouth twisted wryly at that comment, but her response was sincere. "Thanks for showing up."

"Don't thank me for shit. I said I was going to be here, every call did I not?"
