Jupiter always brought me to places I had never been before. Abandoned houses, empty supermarkets and buildings with a 200 feet view. It was incredible how she could always enter a place at night. Her family owned a large supermarket company called: MegaFoods. The next night she stole her dad's car key's, picked me up and we drove to the supermarket.
It was dark in the store and the only light we had, was the full moon. It was a beautiful clear night. A perfect night for a burglary or whatever it was what we were doing.
Me: Is this a break-in?
Her: No, of course not.
Me: But this is against the law. We broke in, in a supermarket. Going into a supermarket at night is illegal, even if it's your dad's store. What if we get caught. She laughed.
Her: please, chill. Relax. Enjoy it.
Me: Enjoy what?
Her: The silenceShe looked happy. Truly happy. Not just like a kid who got a new toy, no she looked happier. Happier than a kid in Disneyland, happier than a boy with his new girlfriend. Happier than I've had ever seen someone before.
We kept walking through the shelves of the shop, when she suddenly stopped walking.
Her: Do you hear that?
Me: I do not hear anything.
Her: Exactly. That is the sounds of silence. Isn't it beautiful. No kids, no adults, no mobile phones. Nothing.I kept listening. I didn't said a word. She didn't said a word. And I could only think of the fact that she would never go with Ezra to an empty supermarket, to listen to the silence. It made me feel special. Maybe I was special to her.
Me: What is the real reason we are here?
Her: There is no reason. I just wanted to go away for a little bit of time.
Me: Away from what?
Her: Away from everything.I wondered if she had any problems at home. Problems with her family or with other friends.
Me: Is everything good at home? With your family, your dad?
She put her finger to her lips as a sign that I had to be quiet. Perhaps it was a way to ignore the real question. She did not like to talk about her home situation. Her biological mother was gone since her ninth. Since than she had got a lot of stepmothers over the years. I could hardly imagine how difficult that must have been for her.
We stayed quiet and just walked trough the empty building. I didn't know for how long. Seconds, minutes, hours. But it was worth all the time in the whole worth.
