"If it was all in my head, how did I cut my hand?" Mirabel asked her mother as she prepared an Arepa for her daughter's wound. "I would never ruin Antonio's night. Is that really what you think?"
Julieta turned over the Arepas as she spoke. "What I think is that today was very hard for you."
"That's..." Mirabel grunted. "I was looking out for the family. And I might not be super strong like Luisa, or effortlessly perfect like señorita perfecta Isabela who's never even had a bad hair day, but..." she sighed in defeat. "Whatever."
Julieta took hold of Mirabel's hand as he leant against the counter beside her.
Casita moved a plate with an Arepa rapped in some paper to beside the two. Mirbel lazily put her wounded hand out as Julieta took the Arepa.
"I wish you could see yourself the way I do. You are perfect just like this. You're just as special as anyone else in this family." Julieta told her as Mirabel ate the Arepa.
"Mm-hmm. You just healed my hand with an arepa con queso." Mirabel said.
Julieta trailed her fingers along Mirabel's palm as she replied. "I healed your hand with my love for my daughter-" she began as Mirabel groaned.
"With her wonderful brain, big heart, cool glasses" she continued as Mirabel muttered 'stop mamá'. Julieta kissed her cheek as she mumbled in Spanish.
Mirabel backed away from her mother as she spoke. "I know what I saw." She said seriously.
Julieta sighed. "Mira, my brother Bruno lost his way in this family. I don't want the same for you. Get some sleep. You'll feel better tomorrow."

Mirbel lay wide awake in bed as she stared at the ceiling. She couldn't stop thinking about the cracks and the candle. It had to mean something, right?
She sighed she crawled out of her bed. She made her way to the door and opened it, eyes immediately going to the candle. She made her way onto the roof where she carefully shook along it, heading for the candle.
Once she was right beside it she hesitated, suddenly hearing footsteps make their way towards the candle.
She quickly pressed her back to the wall as Abuela leant on the windowsill, looking down at a picture of Pedro, her husband.
"Ay, Pedro. I need you. Cracks in our Casita. If our family knew how vulnerable we truly are...If our miracle is dying. We cannot lose our home again. Why is this happening? Open my eyes. If the answer is here, help me find it. Help me protect our family. Help me save our miracle." She kissed the picture before walking away from the candle and out of the room.
Mirabel turned to look at the candle as she whispered. "I will save the miracle."
She quickly went back to her room, getting dressed and putting her bag over her shoulder and neck. Casita helped put her shoes on before she determinedly rushed to the door, pausing as she lay her hand on the handle.
"Wait, how do I save a miracle?" She asked as she turned to see Casita creak the window and a few tiles, telling her, 'I donno'.
"I...find out what's happening to the miracle" she guessed.
Casita created some more as she asked Mirabel 'how are you going to do that?'.
"Oh, I have no idea. But there is one person in this family who hears everything about everything"
She said picking up a phot of the Madrigals family photo.
"So if anyone would know what's wrong with the magic...It's her."
