Shanghai, China
You'd not experienced that feeling, that gut wrenching, punched in the lungs, mutter body experience since you'd watched your mother kill your father. You had stayed quiet on purposed, sat tending to Mace's face as you listened to Lin explain what the plans had been, thinking how clever it was but also reminding you why you were taking the drive for yourself. No government should have it, you knew it, no one should hold that power and if you couldn't learn how to create a defence for something like this, you'd have to get rid of it, destroy it because you shouldn't have it either. But the second that Lin said the words "we sold them nothing, the drive is right here. . ." you nearly collapsed.
"You killed Marks for that. . . " You knock yourself back into the room as you help Mace stand.
"You knocked out the power, the planes?" You ask confused and furious. Your point being proven.
"No, Marks did. . . he was working with someone. . . Perhaps Nick is working for them too." She says sternly. Mace drops dejectedly, but you suddenly panic. You see there's no message from Nick that he's safe, that he's at the hotel. Nothing. "I stopped him before he could do more." she says before looking back at the computer "he was working with this man. . . " a face popped up on the screen.
"Elijah Clarke. . . " you say, Lin nods "a know financier for international terror groups and when he feels like it a bit of drug smuggling" you add bitterly.
"The drive is safe now, the world is safe." You try not to show your unconvinced look as you all stand round digesting the information. "You'll all be going home soon."
. . . . . . . . MEANWHILE WITH NICK. . . . . . . .
"I didn't get that drive for you..." Nick says cockily as Elijah walks along his office, Nick outnumbered by armed guards and weaponless.
"No, you didn't get it for her either. . . ." Elijah says patronisingly "you got a decoy. . . ." Nick frowns. "You got a 500 million dollar paperweight. . . " he says angrily. It doesn't take Nick long to realise whats happened, the Chinese had swapped it, giving him the decoy.
"They must have swapped it. . . " he says quietly, whispering it slightly before earning a close to bone bruising kick to the leg.
"They must have swapped it . . ." Elijah shrugs before punching Nick hard across the face, sending him flying onto the floor.
"Has she got it??" Elijah shouts as he punches Nick again. Nick trying to stand.
"I wouldn't" he huffs "tell you if she did. . . " he give a 'fuck you' smile to Elijah before earning another blow to the face.
"I thought you might say that. . . " Elijah kicks Nick.
"Well, one of them has it. . .and you're going to help me find out which one does. . . "
. . . . END OF NICK POV . . . . .
"No one to call either?"
"Hmm?" You turn from staring out the window, you're in jeans and a black top, your phone glued to your hand as you stare out the window. You were hopping Nick was ok, the thought he'd taken the drive and ran didn't enter your mind... and little did you know the thought you had betrayed him hadn't crossed his either.
"I'm sorry, about that Nick guy, I sense there was more to the story than Mace's knew?" Marie presses you.
"Speaking off. . . " you distract the conversation as Mace beings to twitch and turn before abruptly waking up.
