Just as the world is full of peace and love, hatred and grief are always accompanying those feelings. There can't be love without grief, there can't be peace without war or hatred. It's like Ying and Yang, who can't be without each other, but both always carry a piece of the other with them.
And just as those two coexist with each other, so does it happen in this world.
While most creatures live with each other peacefully, there are always exceptions. The probably best known enmity is between two hybrid tribes, the red dragon hybride tribe and the white dragon hybride tribe.
While one is known for their purity, which is why they're called white lotuses by outsiders, the other one is known their fighting power they use to protect the creatures in their territory.
Those two tribes are deeply in odds with each other, though no one really knows why.
Some say the white dragon tribe accidentally killed someone of the red dragon tribe and the red dragon tribe killed one of them for revenge, the white dragon tribe killed one of the red dragon tribe and so on until they had an armistice, but they still held hatred for the other after it.
Others say the red dragon clan threatened to kill the head of their tribe and killed some servants of the white dragon clan to show them they are not joking. The white dragon tribe did the same to the red dragon tribe and that's it, but's the hatred was still held at each other for killing some of them.
Those are only the most recent and brutal ones, but there are also some wich discribe stealing, poisoning, hurting the head of ones tribe etc, etc.
No matter which story you tell, it leads to the same outcome. The tribes hate each other to death and wouldn't even look at each other if they could. And in between those tribes, lives a young man of 16 years. This man was the 2nd prince of the white dragon hybride tribe, Lan Wangji. He was a man, who always lived after the strict rules of their tribe and especially the one that said One shall not associate with the red dragon tribe. Wangji never asked why this rule existed and always told himself it must be there for a reason. and never questioned it. He also never questioned it when his uncle introduced him to beauties, even when he already new he would probably have to marry one of them. He was the 2nd prince of the tribe after all. Though he never had any interest in those women they introduced him to. The most he would feel for them would be a little friendship, but that never happened. The prince was very introverted and never really showed himself to others, only when he absolutely must. But he always had support from his elder brother, Lan Xichen, the first prince of the white dragon tribe.
Lan Wangji also was taught all kinds of thing from a very young age. He was taught how to fight with a sword, how to fight with physical strength, how to work with magic, how to behave in front of others, and one of his favorite things, how to play guqin. He loved this instrument, it helped him isolate from the real world just for even a minute. He played the guqin daily, sometimes his brother duets him with his flute, but that's rare. But today, there was a conference held at their home. Lan Wangji didn't really knew what it's about, he heard something about arranges for 1st prince Lan's future marriage but it didn't involve Wangji, so he was left in the dark about it.
This still meant he couldn't play his guqin at home, so he went into the forest, since it's the most logical solution. He would be unbothered, it's quiet and the chances someone would come look for him and find him there are really low. Hence he goes deeper and deeper in the forest while appreciating the beautiful scenery he is in.
He walked past the green trees as light spilled through them and let the forest look brighter as it brought the colors out even more. Small animals jump through the trees and hush trough the bushes when Wangji walked past them, his white dragon tail gliding slowly behind him. Then he hears the sounds of water. It's sound is barely audible.
There must be a lake nearby Wangji thought as he walked to the source of the sound.
As the sound got a little louder, the prince walked a little faster to reach his goal.
After a while, he reached it. It was a beautiful sight.
A lake in the middle of the scenery, whose water was so clear, you could look at it and see your reflection with only one eye. Around the lake were trees which formed a little valley, but still covered it well. The chirping of birds can be heard and the scent was intoxicating. The scent of the forest was something Wangji surely enjoyed every time he went out for a walk, but this was something different. He didn't know why, but the scent made him feel more like home than anything he has ever smelled in his life. It was overwhelming.Wangji sat himself near a tree, placing his quqin on his lap, taking a deap breath as he started playing.
"Nice piece. You think you could play it again for me?" Wangji lifted his head from the guqin. He looked around. Who is there? He asked himself an continued looking. He didn't need for long, because the voice's owner made himself known. Then suddenly someone came from the tree behind Lan Wangji. A tall man made himself known. His black hanfu making him even taller than he actually was. The man slowly walked up to Wangji, making himself sit in front of Lan Wangji. The prince only looked at the man, studying his face before he even started to notice the traits of a red tail and black horns on the man's figure. When he came to finally realize the man's horns and tail, he looked at the man angrily.
One of those from the red dragon tribe. Lan Wangji thought.
"What do you want?" He spitted coldly, looking the man straight in the eyes.
"Why so cold to me? We don't know each other and I only want to hear you play again. It's really nice listening to that." The man said while lightly laughing it away.
"You're from the red dragon tribe, why would I want to do anything with you?" Wangji hissed.
"Oh come on, only because I'm from the red dragon tribe? You don't know me, so why judge me when you donut even know my name? It's Wei Wuxian by the way, given name Wei Ying" He said while grinning at Lan Wangji.
"I don't care, your tribe and my tribe are on very big odds, so stay away from me." He replied in a rather cynic tone.
"But I won't go, I only want to hear you play again. You didn't even tell me your name and I gave mine without hesitation. You can trust me, I won't tell it to anyone." Wei Wuxian said a little playful.
He acts like a child Wangji internally said.He said nothing to Wei Wuxian in reply. Instead he stood up, initiating to go home.
"Hey, where are you going?" A voice called behind him. Wangji instantly knew Wei Wuxian wouldn't let him go so easily. But he quickly went of, going home, what he thought should be easy.
Wrong answer. Lan Wangji went the way he walked in the forest to go out of the forest. But it took longer then it should. It was like the forest wouldn't let him go. After a good incense time of walking and not coming out of the forest, walking past the same corner like ten times by now, it suddenly clicked in his mind.
Please don't tell me this forest is what I think it is.
