Yi Lin's Hope For Brother - Written by Alex N at age 8 - 13

So basically when I was between the ages of 8 - 13 (im not sure what exact age just the fact it only took 2 weeks) I wrote a chinese myth as as a history project in my history class. I only wrote 1 full chapter and the second chapter is only 1 sentence lol. So yeah. Enjoy I guess.

Chapter 1:

One night, while Bao,Yi Lin and Bao's Qi (dragon-horse) were home alone. Yi Lin spent her time, like most nights, staring at the moon. Their mom was at work while their brother (bohai) was off searching for The Mystical Dragon of China, which we will be calling the "Mogwai". As she sat on the front porch staring at the moon Yi Lin thought, it is very strange for my brother to be gone for so long.

As a bird comes and sits on the railing of the porch, The bird that talked to Yi Lin on most nights, had something else on its mind.

The bird said "Hello Yi Lin" Though Yi Lin didn't look at the bird she silently said "Hi" "Did you know there's a home of immortality?"Yi Lin never had heard this before but was so engaged in her thoughts on her brother's disappearance that it slipped by her mind.

The bird talked about this home of immortality but seemingly Yi Lin ignored everything it said until the bird said "Did u know The Mogwai is said to keep guard of the home of immortality?" Yi Lin started paying attention to the bird. Though she had to go back inside soon, her curiosity of the connection of what the bird was talking about to her brother kept her. As the bird continued on with its name dropping and its stories on this topic, Yi Lin "Are there any humans who've passed this dragon you talk of?" and "Where did you learn this information?". While at first the bird ignored Yi Lin's questions and continued on with its monologue, it soon answered after her persistence. It simply answered with "Yes but they've never been seen outside of the gates of the immortal plane"

Yi Lin and the bird continued their conversation until the wee hours of night. But before the bird left Yi Lin forgot to ask an important question "How can you get there?".

The next morning Yi Lin, a little frustrated from not getting to ask the question to the bird, Grew more frustrated as she realized her mother was taking a long time to come back.

Mystical Island at this time had a dictatorial emperor causing Mystical Island to grow harsh over the years. The emperor and the community weren't all that friendly. Yi Lin's mother worked for hours on end while Bao and Yi Lin couldn't make friends, having them to rely on animals and each other. Bao saw how frustrated his older sister was and tried to fix it by trying to cheer her up, with the help of his Qi.

Later that night Bao joined Yi Lin on the porch because he was concerned for Yi Lin, so he came to keep company.

After a while of sitting on the porch they heard a strange noise

...A sound maybe... a voice coming from the sky?

When Bao heard this noise he asked "Did you hear that? I think it's coming from the sky". As Yi Lin looked at Bao strangely with confusion, the voice spoke again but this time Yi Lin heard it. As they look up to the sky Yi Lin notices something in the moon that she had never seen before, but before she can say anything the moon says "I am Chang E, Goddess of the Moon, I have come to relay a message to your mortal souls''. When she said this they gasped in astonishment as they thought, is she really the goddess of the moon?, why has she come to speak to us? As the shadow got closer, she said "I've noticed you'd stare at the moon waiting for your brother, if you want to meet him again, follow what I say". Yi Lin Nodded, still confused but interested. The goddess spoke again but when she did, she spoke softer as if she was trying to hide her presence.

"Follow the moon's shine, where you will find fox spirits of the night, you will follow them, I will meet you there, to tell you where to go".

Then silently but in a flash she was gone. They rushed out of their house, neglecting the fact their mother would be home soon. They hopped on their Qi. Following the moon's shine to a place they had never seen before during their travels through the same forest. They found the fox spirits. They followed these foxes as they ran towards the legendary Longmen, also known as the dragon's gate.
