Play Once More
"She's surrounded with darkness. Yet, she brings me light. I'm thoroughly enthralled—she doesn't even have to try... with mind, entrails, bones, and everything I own, I willingly succumbed to my impending doom."
After weeks of staying with each other, they build a friendship in which they shared the same thoughts and beliefs but one thing can differentiate them both. Roscoe is a man of integrity and knowledge and Melloeine loves flowers and is carried by her emotion so much. What they have might be not intimate or romantic but they sure have a lot of qualities that attract each persona.
“It’s raining, I want to play something,” Melloeine uttered while smelling the tulips that Roscoe gave her.
“What kind of game do you wanna play?” Roscoe comfortably sat on the floor while solving a Rubik's cube.
“Hmm... I want to play spin the bottle but you will surely cheat,” she said, skeptical that he will indeed not play the game fair.
“You bet.” He laughed and sat beside her.
“Let’s just play two truths and a lie," she offered.
“Alright, game. You first,” he gladly agreed. He smiled smugly, thinking that he can do anything Melloeine wished.
“Hmm... I’m scared of blood, I love dark, I was a nurse,” she stated one by one.
“The lie was you love dark!” Roscoe exclaimed in excitement as if he was sure that his answer is right.
“Wrong! The lie was that I was a nurse. Of course, I do not hate dark, I’m blind, remember?” She laughed in victory. Roscoe just let her celebrate and forgot the tiniest bit on how she did not mention the other lie.
“I thought I was right.” Roscoe looked solemn and he saw how Melloeine smiled.
“I don’t want to play it anymore, I’m bored,” she practically whined but the sound just made her look cute. He is whipped.
“Let’s play hide and seek then.” Roscoe’s eyes widened in shock when he heard those words. Any words can come out from his mouth and it’s like he’s stuck with someone and he cannot move. It’s been a month since he did his deed.
“Roscoe? Are you alright?” Melloeine reached for his face, her cold hands carefully touching his skin. That brought him back to reality.
“Yeah. I’m fine. Who’s gonna be it?” he tried to sound gleeful in front of Melloeine, thankful that she can't see how agitated he'd become.
“Alright! I’m the one who’s gonna hide and I’ll look for you." Melloeine played with her fingers as if she's practicing how to count the seconds of hide and seek.
“Are you sure?” Roscoe asked, not enthusiastic about the game.
“I’ve memorized this house so there wouldn’t be any trouble.” She waved her hand like it was nothing which made him feel good that she developed an amount of fondness in his home.
“Alright, be careful and find for me.” He reluctantly walked in the direction of his room just near Melloeine so it will be just easy for her to navigate.
Roscoe proceed to his room and caught his breath, he was unable to utter a word or move even a bit. After a minute, he heard footsteps coming towards his room but he remained calm because it was just a game. He turned his gaze in the door and to be shocked by what he saw.
Melloeine stripped her clothes slowly and removed something from her eyes. He knew it! He should have listened to his intuition, that Melloeine is not blind. Melloeine nakedly crawl while singing the lullaby he used to sing until she reached his bed but in just a swift movement, Roscoe avoided her attempt and quickly sat up.
“You lied to me,” he accused with utter disbelief. “Oh, you bet I did.” She grinned while fixing her hair.
“I should not have let you stay in here, you’re just like everyone else!” he angrily spatted.
“No, honey. I love you and your hideous deed. You thought I wouldn’t know a thing or two about you? You’re such a dumb man, making those little experiments as if you are a child!”
“You’re crazy.” Roscoe lost his words and was just as disappointed as it happened a few years ago.
“No, I’m not. How stupid of you not to ask why am I here in the first place. Although I appreciate your affection that you overlooked the fact that I'm a total stranger," she mocked him.
Roscoe is out of words."Do you wanna know the reason? Well, I killed my brother-in-law because I loved him but he cannot love me back. Stupid man that he is. So see, darling, I want you to make you all mine, all mine. Disapprove and you’ll die.” She grinned mischievously.
“Yeah. How stupid of me.” The tears fell from Roscoe’s eyes and slowly knelt, feeling weak to be standing still. Maybe because of the drug that was surely included in his drink. It was funny that he felt proud when he saw the effort she did to thank him earlier.
He can view himself as to how he views the grinning face of Melloeine, knowing that it would be his end like how he ended those lives. Melloeine strangled him to make sure he couldn’t breathe anymore—loving the gradual loss of his pulse and continued to stab his head multiple times.
Melloeine then dragged Roscoe’s body into his lab and started to open his chest. He took out his beating heart and drank up the blood that surrounds it. She then put it in a jar and the liquid that Roscoe made, she combined it all and sealed it carefully.
She brought her luggage and took out all the jars she’s been storing for a long time. With a menacing smile, she put aside all of Roscoe’s little treasures and put hers instead.
“This is how you play hide and seek, my love. You played it wrong, too bad you’re the prey all along."
THE END.
