Paige's pov______________

I woke up to the sounds of brides chipping. I signed and get up out of bed and got dressed. Today is another day where dad hasn't come back. Percy, My older twin brother keeps telling me he abandoned us and left, and that he is not coming back. Mom on the other hand gave up on the idea of dad coming back. It's like I am the only one who wants him to return.

I walk out of my room and see Percy and Grover waiting for me "Hey Grover" I said as we hugged. I tired to spare him the fact he has crutches.

"What's up Paige, Percy beat his time under the water. You should have seen it" He said all bubbly.

"Percy likes being under water" I said knowing my brother well.

"That is exactly what I said" Percy said as we left for school.

We walked until we reached Yancy Academy.

The bell rang right as we walked in.

We try to get through the big crowed of people in the halls "Wow, wish I could spend all day under water than this place" Percy said.

"Right it's like high school without the musical" Grover said trying to be funny for Percy.

We heard people behind us make noise and I turn to see them fighting and throwing each other at the lockers.

"Every day is the same" Grover said as we finally made it to class.

I sat in my seat and the new teacher wrote on the board then turns to us.

"Good morning" She said "I'm Miss Dodds, your substitute English teacher.. Will someone please explain what Shakespeare was trying to convey in this line othello?" She asked looking around at everyone.

Some people raised their hands but she looks at Percy "Percy Jackson" She called out and my brother zooned back in.

He just looked like he was trying to remember what she was talking about "Well?" She asked impatiently.

I notice the board and the letters start to change into a different sentence, kind of like scramble.

"I'm sorry. I don't know" Percy looked away from her.

"Anybody else?" She asked and other kid answered her. The rest of the day went by fast and Percy and I walked home.

"Hey, did you see the board in English class today? I noticed you looking a bit off" I said.

"You saw that too?" Percy asked shocked as I nod my head.

"It must be in our heads" Percy muttered as we walk in through the door.

"Hey mom were home!" I yelled out.

'I'm, up here kids!" mom yelled and we followed her voice and saw her iron clothes.

"Hey guys" She said as she saw us. We put of stuff down and hug her.

"Hi mom" Percy said.

"How was school?" She asked.

"The usual" Percy said and I nod.

"Mom we think this, uh, dyslexia things is getting worse" I said.

Mom frowned "Oh, why do you think that?" She asked.

"I don't know. Maybe it's the ADHD" I said.

"I thought this school was suppose to make things better" Percy said upset.

"Percy I know how hard this is for you, but someday it will all make sense" Mom said.

"Really when?" Percy asked raising his voice "Hm, Tonight? tomorrow? When?" Percy pushed and mom started to look frustrated.

Then the door opens and mom's asshole boyfriend walks in "Woman" he said sitting down in the kitchen.

"Hi Gabe" Mom said.

"Where's my beer?" He asked.

"In the fridge" Mom said.

"So, what, it's suppose to magical float from the icebox into my hand?" He asked. Omg what a prick. Can't do shit for himself.

He chuckled as mom went to the fridge.

"Hustle" He smacked her on the ass. Ew...

"Oh come on man. You have to do that right here? W-Were in a kitchen, it's disusting " Percy asked clearly deigusted as much as I was.

Mom gave him his drink and went back to the laundry "Yeah real charmer you got there" Percy said to her.

"Show some respect alright? That's my mom right here and my sister is here as well" Percy said.

Gabe grunts as he stood up and went over to Percy "This is my house. You show some respect" Gabe threatens as he walks out of the room.

Truth be told I am not a big fan of him and Percy hates his guts.

"Mom why do you stay with him?" I asked her.

"He sleeps to noon everyday and can't even hold a job" Percy complains.

"He's been good to us kids, in ways you just... you don't understand" Mom said sounding frustrated now.

"Your right I don't understand. I don't get it" Percy storms off.

Mom signed "Don't listen to him mom. He just needs to cool off" I said.

"I know sweetie" Mom nods her heads and I go to my room and finish up homework.
