2 years later...
"Okay trainees," says Master Varka, "I have someone to introduce to you today." A little girl dressed in a red dress walks in, grinning. "This is Amber. She will be training with you from now on. Make sure you treat her with respect as you treated Jean with respect a couple years ago." He says before walking off and leaving the training to Percy. Jean leans towards Diluc and whispers,
"Did ya hear that, respect." Diluc rolls his eyes at her and she waves at the new girl Amber. She walks over to Jean and says hi. "Hello! My name is Jean." She replies. The two girls smile at each other before doing their training for the day. "Soooo... how do you feel about your first training session?" Jean asks her.
"Great! It was so much more fun than I could've imagined! Thanks for welcoming me!" Amber yelps and jumps up and down in excitement. Jean giggles.
"Of course!"
"Jean! Come over here!" Kaeya calls her over and Jean was about to start walking towards him when she remember she wanted to write in her diary today during breakfast.
"Uh, sorry, Kaeya. I'm not really hungry right now. I'll see you later though!" She faces Amber and tells her about her best friend. "That blue haired guy over there is my best friend, Kaeya. He looks mean but I promise he's great! Why don't you go over and talk to him?" Amber nods and runs towards Kaeya. Meanwhile, Jean slowly walks over to the big bushes nearby and looks inside them for her diary. Jean found it exactly where she last put it to her relief. "Hello diary, we meet again." She opens it and flips through to the newest page. She reads what she last wrote and it was about her 10th birthday. Then she starts writing her new entry:
Dear Barbatos,
I've been really confused lately. It's just that, Lisa is so pretty and whenever I look at her I always get butterflies for some reason. The way her luscious hair flows, everything about her is just so.. pretty. But I know I can't possibly like her because 1. She's a girl and I'm a girl. And 2. She is 14! But again she is just so
Jean couldn't finish what she was writing as someone hovers over her.
"Hey cutie, what're ya doing?" Lisa asks her with her calm voice and Jean screams in surprise and puts her book over her face to hide her red cheeks.
"Lisa! I uh, I'm just, u-uh, writing about the new girl, Amber. Y-yeah, that's what I'm doing!" She lies.
"That is so adorable, darling." Lisa tells her and giggles when Jean gets flustered. "Anyways, I was going to come ask if you're sure you don't wanna come sit with us."
"Yep! T-totally sure!" Jean quickly tells her and looks at Lisa until she is out of sight to start writing again. Phew that was very close. She thinks. Jean quickly finishes writing in her diary and gets up out of the bushes and finds Diluc standing nearby.
"Ugh, hey, Diluc." She mutters. Diluc turns around to see her but he doesn't look surprised. He has his hands in his pockets and he was frowing.
"Lisa said you'd be here." He said looking at Jean.
"Did she now?" She looked over at Lisa who was reading a book as usual.
"I wanted to ask something." Diluc started. "Would you like to go for a walk around Mondstadt with me?" Jean gasped because she didn't expect Diluc to be nice to her at all.
"I-I, sure, I guess." She answered dryly since she didn't know what else to say. Diluc reaches his hand out to Jean and she takes it. They go to the fountain in the center of the city and sit down.
"So... what do you want to talk about?" Jean asks Diluc hesitantly. Diluc shrugs and looks into the fountain.
"When did you realize you wanted to join the Knights of Favonius?" He suddenly asks her. Jean looks at him surprised because no one has ever asked her that question and she has never thought about it.
"Uh, I guess I just knew right away." Jean replied dryly. Diluc stared at her, dissatisfied.
"You must have had some signs." He pressured her to tell him more. "You could have 'just known'." Jean sighed as she realized this was true.
"I mean, I've always like sword fighting and ever since I can remember I've wanted to protect Mondstadt in any way possible." She finally explained. Diluc nodded and looked off into the distance. The streets of Mondstadt were busy and people were walking around everywhere you looked. He sighed and stood up. Jean watched him walk away and a few minutes later she went back to the headquarters as well.
"Aw, back already?" Kaeya asked her when she went inside.
"What did you expect, huh?" Jean suddenly snapped at him and Kaeya flinched in surprise as he has never seen this side of her. "Sorry." she quickly apologized. "I don't know what came over me." Kaeya shrugged.
"It's cool." He said and walked towards his room. Jean felt so much guilt for hurting her friend's feelings. She really wish she never snapped at him.
"Hello, Miss Jean." Someone suddenly said behind her and she jumped. She turned around to see the Grand Master standing with his arms behind his back, chuckling. "I apologize, I didn't mean to scare you." He said. Jean relaxed a bit, embarrassed, that she got spooked so easily.
"N-no, it's alright. I wasn't scared." She stuttered and crossed her arms, looking proud. Master Varka nodded.
"Percy has informed me that your training has been going very well." Jean's eyes widened. There was no way that the Grand Master would let her become a knight so early. That was just her dream. "I would like to work with you alone sometime to see how well you actually are doing." He finally said. Jean sighed but she knew that she would just have to wait 8 more years. 8 years! That's a long time! She thought. "Miss Jean, are you listening?"
"Oh yes! Sorry, I was just a bit lost in thought."
"Alright then, I will see you tomorrow morning in Wolvendom." Master Varka said before going back to his office.
"Okay! I will be there Master Varka!" She called out to him. Jean thought about what he said and then realized something. Wolvendom! That is so far away! I'm supposed to get there all by myself? Huh, the Grand Master must think I'm doing that well. I won't let him down! She convinced herself and fortunately as she went back to her room her mood was a lot better than before. As Jean got ready for bed she looked in the mirror.
"Look at how far you've come Jean. You should be proud of yourself." She quietly said to her reflection. But somehow, deep down, she didn't feel that way. She felt like a disappointment. As Jean drifted off to sleep that word rang in her head. Disappointment. Disappointment. Disappointment. Disappointment.
A/N: Oh my god! Look at that! I'm finally incorporating more Jeanlisa! Yayyyyyyyy! But seriously tho this chapter ain't too bad in my opinion.
