The Obelus

-3- A worker who works hard

Yihan walks down the corridor to go grab the matches, but you have a feeling you should follow Yihan. You follow Yihan down the corridors. You wait outside the office for Yihan to get the matches out, but you overhear Felix and Yihan talking.

"Yihan, there's no way I'm letting those three slide anymore."

You hear a thumping noise and look into the window. You see Yihan pinned on the wall by Felix.

"Stop it Felix! What the hell is wrong with you? You know what it was like to be tested on. Just let them out, it isn't going to impact us in any way!"

"Yes it is. If we tell on them, we'll both get raises, food advantages and also higher rankings! Anyway, I'll keep your stupid little secret but you will have to do something for me, deal?"

"No! I'll never do anything for you, you psychopath!"

"Huh, I thought you would be more intelligent."

You hear faint noises of Felix threatening Yihan. You hear their muffled voices, but still manage to pick up that Felix is threatening Yihan about you three.

"Fine! Just... don't do anything to them!"

You run back as fast you can, forgetting about the matches you were waiting for. You rush back and tell Mini and Riley about the news.

You tell them that Felix isn't trustworthy, and that you need to get out of the building as fast as possible. As soon as you finish explaining, Yihan and Felix reappear with the matches.

"Hey, I'm back with the matches! Hey Mini, could you grab out that grenade for me quickly?"

"Yeah but Felix, can you give us some private time? We need to discuss some... you know... strategies!"

"But I could help you guys!"

You, Mini and Riley disappear without answering Felix. You pull Yihan with you, and start whispering.

"Okay, so what do you need help with?"

"It's not us that needs help, it's you! We know what Felix's been doing to you!"

"That's why you should escape with us!"

"What?"

"Do you really want Felix to torture you every day? Do you really want to work for something that controls and prisons you?"

Yihan agrees with doubt. You guys return back to Felix, who is still mad about you four leaving without them.

"Hey Yihan! Were you guys talking about me?" Felix says with a mocking tone. You,Yihan, Mini and Riley ignore Felix and get ready to blow the grenade. You light the match, but you realise Felix has disappeared. You wonder where Felix went, but don't investigate more because you and everyone else are too busy focusing on the match to care more. You get ready to light the grenade, but then hear faint noises of footsteps coming your way. You ignore it once again, and then light the fuse.

You, Yihan, Mini and Riley run back as far as you can before the grenade explodes. The footsteps noises get louder and louder, and suddenly, the door bursts open with huge force. Shards of metal and glass fly everywhere, and you four quickly run out to examine the landscape.

You see that you are on a cliff edge, and the only way to escape is by jumping down there. You quickly think about how you four are going to get down there without dying. The sound of maniacal laughter gets louder and louder. You turn back and realise that six people have joined you. Felix is surrounded by five Obelus guards and they are armed with guns. Guns that could kill you in one shot.

"Oh shit," you whisper. You know you are done for, and you have no choice now. Someone is going to die, and the Obelus guards are ready to shoot. You see Riley and Mini coming your way, and you see them holding their arms out to.. protect you? Riley and Mini stand in front of you, holding their arms out widely to cover you.

Behind Riley and Mini's arms, you can see that Yihan is surrounded by the five Obelus guards. There is no way for Yihan now to survive. You squint your eyes and hope for the worst.

Suddenly, you hear a gunshot.

You open your eyes. Riley is gone. and you see the blood splatters everywhere. Riley has fallen to the ground, and you feel really guilty about not finding a way to save him. The more you look at Riley, the more you regret it. What else could happen? What now? Riley's gone and the blood is slowly spreading to your feet.

You close Riley's eyes, hoping he'll be somewhere happy in the clouds soon. Away from all the fighting and the pain.

You stir back to real life. You see that there is no time to waste, and Mini is very vulnerable to being shot.

"Mini, no!" You scream.

You try to run in front of them to protect them, but it's too late.

"Y/N, it's time for me to leave this world. See you in the next life hopefully."

And then blood splatters on you.

Mini's gone. They mouth their final words and then have their final breath. You shed a tear waiting for the final bullet to strike you. You look up.

There are no words coming out of your mouth. You are still in shock, and you notice that one of the Obelus guards is pointing their gun directly at you.
